GIVING DAY 2023
Good athlete + good work ethic + good coach = Successful college career.

Can't wait to see what our staff can do with a 6-9, 230-pound kid with two healthy knees and the desire to be great.

Hopefully Calixte's presence brings out the best in Troy this summer. Competition usually makes everyone better.

GIVING DAY 2023
I've seen nothing but good things from Paulsen. I expect this year's class to continue that trajectory. We're just gonna get better and better. Sit back and enjoy the ride.

Edit: also f*ck vcu

Agreed and as I said to one of our old pals at the bar last night "I'm ready for Mason to not suck at basketball and be back in March Madness"

http://www.news12varsity.com/morgan-calixte-sign-letters-of-intent-in-touching-ceremony-1.1867576:

"The Knights have never had a double National Letter of Intent signing ceremony though until Friday afternoon when seniors Noah Morgan and Gregory Calixte officially signed and committed to their respective universities. Morgan, the News12Varsity Hudson Valley Player of the Year, is headed to nearby Fairleigh Dickinson University. Calixte, a News12Varsity Hudson Valley First Team member, is off to George Mason University in Virginia."

"The two players took different paths to Friday’s signing ceremony. Morgan was considered a star since the time he was in elementary school with the Junior Knights. Calixte, who hadn’t picked up a basketball until 7th grade, nearly quit the sport.

Instead, he improved and improved year-to-year and earned his way to a free secondary education, and in the words of Junior Knights coach Dwayne Murray 'became a man' in all aspects of life.

'It was a lot of blood, sweat, and tears to get to this point for me. Any of my coaches will tell you how tough it was for me,' Calixte said. 'I was really bad. I was terrible. It feels surreal to make it to this point. It really does.'"

Also have to love his name - will be fun to scream in the EBA.

Excellent pick up and shows Paulsen is going balls deep to win.

Kid didn't start balling until 7th grade. Seems like Shevon except Paulsen gets 4 years with him. Huge upside and with no improvement is probably still on par with current bigs.

I like this signing -- a lot.

If Calixte is willing to put the work in -- at practice, in the weight room, in the off season and in the classroom -- I think he could be a solid contributor on the front line.

Paulsen and his staff are excellent teachers of fundamental low-post play. The footwork and technique required to compete at a high level comes through practice and repetition.

I also get the sense that Calixte has a "lunch-pail" mentality. He impresses me as a guy who is willing to bang down low, rebound, set picks and play hard-nose defense. I don't get the sense that he is a freakish athlete, but that's fine, because he does not need to be in Paulsen's system.

I am very interested to see how he develops over his four years under Paulsen.

Most coaches will tell you that they prefer players who work hard over those who have natural talent. Many players with natural talent feel that they don't have to work to become better players. Motivating such players becomes a full-time job. Other players see the lack of effort being put in by the "talent" and then slack off themselves. You end up with no one improving and a no one playing as a team (eh-em... Paul Hewitt). It's easy to see how such talented players who are difficult to motivate can have a toxic effect on a team.

Just saw he's only been playing basketball for a short while, I think some need to temper their expectations of this kid being a day one starter.
