"The coaching staff feels fortunate they found Abram, who had no firm offers after finishing his senior season. When four Mason players transferred in the wake of Paulsen replacing Paul Hewitt in late March, the staff was looking for wing players.

Simpkins heard about a rangy kid in Texas. The staff got some tape, liked what they saw and heard great reports about Abram’s character. Within a week Abram visited campus and committed in May.

'I like his versatility,' Paulsen said. 'I think he has a shot at being a really good player.'

Abram feels most comfortable playing the 3 (small forward) but has no complaints about the shift to the 4 (power forward).

'It gives me more of an opportunity to be on the court,' Abram said. “I’m down for whatever coach needs me to do for us to win.'”

Abram surpassed his career-high against Wagner, pouring in a game-high 27 points and recording his first-ever double-double with 10 rebounds. The guard from Carrollton, Texas, was 7-for-13 from the floor, including a 6-for-8 performance from 3-point land. When Mason trailed by eight in the first half, Abram hit three consecutive treys to give the lead to the Patriots. Abram's six triples marks a career-high and the first time a Patriot his six 3-pointers in a game since Andre Cornelius hit seven at UNCW in February 2011. For the game, Abram shot 53.8 percent from the floor and 75.0 percent from three-point range. The freshman added a 7-for-10 effort at the charity stripe for a personal-best. It’s the second straight A-10 rookie award for Abram.
