Welcome Coach Tony Skinn!

If you want Tony Skinn to stay as the head coach of George Mason, make sure to email Mason Athletics about it here:

Just assume they don't read these boards. Tell Mason Athletics that they need to pay Tony and his coaching staff more, they need to give him whatever he wants, they need to give him more NIL money to work with etc

It only takes 5-10 minutes to email them

Gonna do it!
I emailed TOC a couple of times. He actually responded to both. One favorably, and one not. But he did read them and respond. So good on him.

And send in a donation when you do.....
That too!

Skinn is getting plenty of love from basketball nerds on Twitter, with his name coming up several times on the SearchSzn spaces last night. There’s even speculation he’d be a good fit at Villanova, UVA, VT.

Hope the administration takes steps to get ahead of that!
VT? Come on. That can’t be real. In no world would he leave for a VT dead end job.

Nova and uva, hope is he wouldn’t leave Mason for just anywhere but money talks. Just hope we got another couple years before the money fight starts to happen.

Providence ring a bell?

Villanova too, but Neptune is a special case.

Oh and LaVelle Jordon at Butler (but also a special case).

No matter what we do we can’t compete financially with a UVA, UMD, or a Villanova. We have to hope that Skinn has enough loyalty and we do enough for him stick around until the job is done (that is a consistently relevant top A10 program), and if that means 25-30 years? Awesome. But I’m hoping for a solid 7 (10 years would be even better).

Honestly, I’ll never hold a grudge against Skinn like I do against English. I just hope he takes us to the tournament before he moves on.

That said, why not stay? He’s making over a million dollars a year, expectations are manageable, and he doesn’t have the pressure he’d face at a Power Five school.

If he wins, his job at Mason only gets better—more funding, easier recruiting, and greater support.

I moved some of the Tony Skinn as coach discussion into this thread so it didn't get lost in a game thread.

Anyway, as far as keeping Tony, I agree with a lot of what you guys are saying. The more success he has, the more chance a big dog / power 5 is going to be interested and try to woo him. Thats just how this business works. Don't hold your breath that Mason will do anything different this go round compared to English or Larranaga. If they do, great, but just don't hold your breath. I won't. It pains me to say that, but my expectations are low if this situation should arise again.

With you here 100%. I knew English wasn't a long term guy but his vibe could definitely rub folks the wrong way. Considering how much he talks and there was hype, he hasn't lived up to anything quite yet.

Tony has done everything that we expected him to do thus far. Hes really a perfect match for a program like Mason. The way we play on the court matches how he played. We're tough, focused, and don't take crap from anyone. Yeah, maybe we get into a skirmish or two, but so did he.

Considering how Tony keeps upping the expectation and performance of our guys on the floor, Mason as a university is going to have to up how they support him. But once again, just don't hold your breath because we have all seen this movie before.

I think there are power 5's and then I think they are top jobs. He isn't leaving for a poop bottom ACC team. He has special ties to Mason and why would he just leave to get a pay day and have to start over in 5 years? No one is winning at say a VT or BC or some of the other now horrible ACC jobs.

I'm not sure the ACC is that desirable across the board right now. A conference who's fate is still largely up in the air. Same could be said for big east. If it's someone jumping just for more money or knows it's their one chance sure but Tony doesn't have to do that. He'll have a long leash at Mason. A Sec or Big 10 job opens that's a different story. A program with serious cash and a chance to really win........

There's zero connection to any of the sec though so i'm not overly worried right now. In year's past and a different time sure. The ACC was the premium land but it's allure is going away quickly.

The problem with VT is that they spend most of their NIL money on football. Their best basketball players end up leaving for the cash. It could be a very good job if those in charge their would come up with more or redirect the $$$

I'm pretty sure Ryan Odom is getting the UVA job. But I could easily see Tony being a candidate for any Big East job that opens up. He already knows the league from his time at Seton Hall.

The entire ACC is about to have this problem. The A10 and the Big East could be better leagues basketball-wise depending on how things break.
