In TOTALLY unrelated news, less than a week ago, the Campus Arts Center for our Prince William Campus was named the #9 Campus Theater in the NATION!! Because who doesn't have a $46 M campus theater on a satellite campus!!!

I think it was mostly privately funded. Could be wrong, but I thought I remember reading that. It is a damn nice venue, though.

Call me ignorant, but is there a difference in where the funding comes for the dorms that go up, and an athletic compound? Or does it just come down to priority?

Yes. If we try to put it in the general fund, guess who has final say? Hint: Siegfried mentioned them. Why do you think we are waiting until safety codes demand we out a new roof in the PC?

Must be a real good map.

hahaha! yea, BroBible has some real quality content on its site. Unfortunately, there are not almost naked chicks sprawled out all across the map. Sorry to disappoint.

Look to Richmond as why the baseball didn't happen. State put a stop to all those projects all over the place.

If JMU got approval from the general assembly to sell bonds to expand Bridgeforth Stadium and build a new Convocation Center, what's stopping us from doing the same in order to upgrade our basketball facilities?

I suspect it could simply be a matter of university priorities -- that the leadership doesn't want to take on so much debt for an athletic endeavor -- but I don't know for sure, which is why I'm asking.

This belongs in the "Hate" thread, IMHO

How this & other ways to capitilize on success weren't priorty for Mason, should warrant an investigation.

Apparently that dumb-dumb Shaka Smart believes vcu's practice facility will make a big difference in their recruiting. ..........
They're using $10.5 million in student fees to help fund their building. Why we can't (or won't) do the same is beyond me.

FWIW, here's my "take" on the issue (Cliff's Notes version):

-States are contributing less to higher ed; used to cover around 60-70% of the cost of education; now it's about 30%

-Causes tuition rates to increase to maintain quality;college tuition increases at higher rate than inflation; more of a load on the individual student.

-Students take on greater debt.

-Bad job market; graduates having harder time paying off loans.

-Spate of articles in the last few years re: "Is a college education worth it?" (my answer--"yes it still is")

-Greater effort by many states and universities to limit the size of tuition increases (including student "fees").

-Mason adopts "Accessibility" as one of 4 parts of its "IDEA" mission statement guided by President Cabrera (Innovation, Diversity, Entrepreneurial are the other 3).

-In order to help Mason become more affordable (thus accessible) there is resistance to substantial raises in fees, especially for things like football and likely practice facilities for basketball. That's why I said earlier that if this is going to happen, a big donor is needed .

Obviously vcu hasn't taken the same stance.

What people seem to forget is that TOC semi announced the practice facility 2 years ago in an email to pat club members, this leads me to believe that there is already some amount of money ear marked for this project. So my question is what happens to that money if its not going to be used for the practice facility? buy out? new seats in the pat dome? wait service in section 101? :D

I hate that the "A" stands for accessibility instead of asskickers.

Maybe been done already, but I'm throwing Jamion Christian's name in the ring right now.

He might be in the NEC championship game, but he went 12-15 in the regular season, and that includes going 8-6 in conference.

He does run "mayhem" (his version of havoc) though...

Yeah, someone beat me to the idea in the where have they been thread anyways. I was very impressed with the way they played though. Nothing wrong with knowing how to get your team on a heater at the right time. Shaka has done that too.

I posted on Mason's FB page that we need a new coach because the current coach has dragged us down into places we've not seen since the dark days of Paul Westhead. I'm sure it already has been deleted...
