It's really unfortunate, however, apathy has set in on the G Mas basketball program. It's a real shame.
I had not noticed it until others pointed it out, but it is odd that you persist with the "G Mas" references. I have never seen another alum use that. The only other place I have seen it, and very rarely, is on an uninformed sports channel listing.

It is not like it is shorter to type than Mason, either. It is actually one keystroke longer with the two shift key hits...

Isn't TOC almost always there? He just moves around from game to game and usually sits up in the stands rather than courtside, unless he's entertaining a VIP.
I have no idea, that was the first time I have seen him. If he is there every game thats even worse lol.

1. Not all students are back from break yet.
2. Even if they were, what should they be cheering for? Poor product on the floor.
3. Our student section has been fairly poor the last several years outside of a few select games (vcu, JMU, Home Opener, Homecoming).

I wouldn't argue with points #1 and #3, but are you really saying there wasn't anything to cheer about during last night's game?

The game was close throughout with several lead changes and lots of scoring. We shot well from 3 and Jenkins showed he is beyond showing promise--he has arrived. It's not like we got blown out and were never in it. And Allen made a long 3 at the buzzer for some free Chic-Fil-As (if you were lucky enough to track down the guy handing out the coupons in the concourse!).

I could care less about fans getting free Chic-Fil-A. I'd rather score 79 points or less and win all the time. I'm not saying there wasn't anything to cheer about, it wasn't a comment directed at that one game, but more of a testament to the feeling that the entire fan base has right now. If we were 14-2 you'd get a more electric feel out of the crowd during a game; students and season ticket holders alike.

Let it be known tonight was the first night for public signs of dismay from the students:

"Larranaga" chants
"Go Home Paul Hewitt"

Also, hope TOC enjoyed his half court, courtside seat to this mess. This one is on you buddy, great hire.

I heard "Go Home Paul Hewitt" loud and clear in section 101.

seriously Coach L? His amazing recruiting is why we are in this mess.
I use the word amazing sarcastically

Are you saying we'd suck had he stayed? there are several programs around the country then have a new coaches and are doing fine with the previous coaches players

I'd say 1/10 of the puzzle, if that.

I mean OCM never leaves, Luke doesn't leave. We probably make the tournament again the next season and possibly win the conference with Ryan Pearson as POY. I'd say that would have had an impact on recruiting in a big way, not to mention Coach L can "do more with less" than Blewitt. I'm not saying we were going to be a Gonzaga or anything but the program would be in much better shape if we had made happy the guy who got us in shape in the first place.

Also we would have competent big men.

Sure, but say anyone were to step into the head coach role other than Hewitt... do you think they would've been able to coach up the few players we have left over from OCM currently on our roster? I think so.

Saying OCM screwed us due to players on the roster currently is just an excuse to get around the lack of player development under Hewitt in my general opinion.

Edit: clarification

In total agreement with you there. All comes back to seeing how many other coaches are doing "more with less" than we are.

What competent big men would we have? I just doubt J2 and Arledge do much more than they have done. Obviously Copes wouldn't be here so I wonder who would have been. J2 has been the same player he always has been.

One would hope that Porter gets coached up and has abilities to catch the ball.

Oh well, nothing like Monday morning Quarterbacking. Its all figurative anyway and we'll never know what would have transpired.

A bad Coach L big man is still better than what we've got now. Coach L knew how to develop big men and I'd have higher hopes for J2 under his direction. But talking about that is kinda dumb, especially since have no idea who else he was courting to come in and replace Pearson and Morrison.

Granted and I can understand your higher hopes. However, the few times we saw J2 play under Larranaga we saw glimpses (the same we've always seen i.e. CofC and Nova) and many times he was yanked quick for not playing defense. I just think he is who he would have always been.

And yeah, its all null and void, cause L isn't here and J2 is a soft teddy bear on D.

Just caught up on the last 2 pages of this thread. You'd think we were 1-14 this season and a team that was accustomed to being nationally ranked. Wow.

The team is doing their part, but I'd say a lot of people on these boards are doing a hell of a job turning us into UNCW quickly. The guy is 52-32 at GMU, this year he lost his only reliable post-offense after one game and whether you like it as an excuse or not, he is now in the A-10 with a mostly CAA-caliber roster.

Now, if your first inclincation after reading the above paragraph is to counter argue, negate some of my points or reminisce to a day when Jimmy L was on the sideline you may be part of the problem and not the solution.

I'll be there Wednesday and to every other home game I'm in town for and I'll cheer when we do well and joke to the people around me how poor some of our players/plays/coaching/execution is when we struggle. Then I'll come here and read how we either won in spite of the coaching or lost because of it.

Those who do not learn from history's mistakes are doomed to repeat them....Just a thought, not a sermon.
