Funny, four years ago I was convinced #4 would be hanging from the rafters because our highest ranked recruit was in town. Was I wrong and then some on that one.

Wow, Jalen is up to 245 lbs. Looks like Marko and Shevon also gained 10 or so pounds. Strength training must be a focus this offseason.

Amazing what happens when you have a coach who's smart enough to play to his players' strengths instead of repeatedly jamming a square peg into a round hole.

Paulsen obviously recognizes that Jalen needs the bulk because he's at his best right around the basket, not dribbling the ball at the top of the key.

I'm guessing it means DP wants to run a slower tempo on both sides as well.

Everything I've read suggests he runs a deliberate offense predicated on taking care of the ball (imagine that) and a conservative defense that favors cutting down on penetration and contesting shots over forcing turnovers.

Personally, both of those are music to my ears.

I like up tempo offense when you have good enough talent to knock down wide-open shots in transition, but teams at our level are almost always going to be better playing at a more moderate pace, pounding the ball into the paint and staying compact on defense to avoid getting blown by for layups over and over again.

This is exactly why I loved the Hewitt hire and remained a loyal disciple up until last year. I honestly thought he was going to bring in a bunch of stud athletes and run on offense and pressure full court on defense. We never saw either. As much as I hate watching slowed-paced games, I'll take that any day over chaos and a lack of fundamentals. If it worked for Coach L, here's hoping it also works for Coach Dave.
