So... Too Early to Talk About Next Year?

I have no problem saying that I'm not a basketball authority and thus I don't post like one. I'm just a long time fan that enjoys a substantive back and forth about the program we all pretend to support. I really do believe that most of the posters on this board are really very similar in their assessment of the program. However, when someone posts anything positive about any part of the program they get lumped into the " lips around DP's cock group" and its simply not true. I really can't think of any poster who is sold that DP is the right guy or that the program isn't mediocre at best, but it is possible to write a post on these boards without taking a swipe at the program every time.

Also I dropped the gold room pass this season and I didn't miss it one bit. That room is far too crowded, most times you have to balance your 2 beers and your plate of food because you can't get a table. I went down to the green room twice this year and that wasn't any better.

Sleeper, I agree that our recruiting hasn't nearly been good enough and that our bench looks pretty thin going into next year.

Are both the gold and green rooms located in the concourse behind curtains? Curious out-of-towner who doesn't foresee attending a future game while utilizing either room.

The Green run is under the main concourse, behind the student section. At least they have TV's in the green room. I've thought the Gold room has needed TV's for years.

Wow....arent they 7 footers ??

I recall reading that they're pretty "interesting" personalities, and might be better for all parties involved if they were not at the same school, in the same way that the Morris brothers are probably best left separated, and Jon Jones and mind-altering substances are best left separated.

Well without anywhere to put them you'd pretty much have to get a staffer to hold them up above their heads. Gold Room already looks sad enough, probably best to not make it look even trashier.

@gmujim92 remember when you posted on here and on Twitter about how the sky is falling at Rhode Island because of two transfers out. Well looks like it was part of the plan. Huge gets for Rhody and A10. From right up the road from us but I doubt we even made a call

I don’t know sleeper ... one of the twins is pretty good but the other one can’t walk and chew gum at the same time. Cox apparently decided beggars can’t be choosers — Providence had the first crack at them and Cooley wouldn’t do a package deal.

But sure, because they’re transferring from Maryland, where they combined to do pretty much nothing, let’s make a big deal about it.

This 100%. For instance it's standard here to rip our non-conference schedule from last year. What we don't mention is that probably our high-water mark as far as health and clicking as a team came in the final of the Cayman Classic (though Greg was banged up). We beat a New Mexico State team that after that loss went 18-2 including 16-0 in their conference. Perhaps that's a small glimpse of what a healthy roster could have accomplished. And while I'm sure the doomsdayers will point out that NMSU was missing a player or create some other excuse for our win, isn't that also sort of the point we're making, that missing a key player can change things?

And for what it's worth I have a former DI player friend in Rhode Island who loves Kolek. Called me as soon as he committed to tell me what a steal we got.

Eh I'll disagree here, I'm still of the mindset that if we get Kier back next year, he's not top 4 in the conference at his position. Is he head and shoulders better than anyone else we have to throw at that spot? Absolutely. But I don't think that Kier returning gives us more than 2 wins in conference than if he doesn't come back. His best year was when teams were doubling Otis everywhere which opened up the floor for him to do what he does best. We haven't seen Kier in a full season as "the guy" who we run the offense through, and I've got some doubts about his ability to be the go to guy to take us to the next level when he's getting the opponents best defender night in night out and teams are scheming around him and doubling him.

He makes us better, but not that much better to make such an enormous difference.

AJ is going to get doubled a lot next year. And if you try to double Kier, Greene and Miller and Hartwell all have the ability to make you pay for that (caveat: it does rely on both of them to make the right pass out of the double). XJ also given extra space due to AJ and Kier's gravity will be able to get to the basket much more easily next year.

So, yeah, I'd say having Kier (an even 85% version of him) and AJ on the floor together could greatly change the complexion of our offense next year.

I’m very interested how they’ll end up. That said last week Cox just called out players for not embracing the process. They also had like 6 transfers or players leaving if I recall correctly.

Interesting he went after two kids that many UMD fans think are arrogant and detrimental to a team.

And their mother is a gigantic pain in the a** who thinks both of her sons are going to play in the NBA.

Even if we had two scholarships open I wouldn’t want any part of this deal.

TV's could easily be attached to the 2 major concrete post in the middle of the room.... no different than adding the Tv's they did by the portal entrances.

I wonder if the benefits will outweigh the costs? and if the program is worse because of the potential damage to teamwork?

How many transfers can they get?

Makhi Mitchell is definitely worth the gamble. He and Antwan Walker will be a handful for most front lines in the A-10.

But his brother Makhel sucks and their mom will not hesitate to throw Cox under the bus if he’s glued to the bench as expected.

When you have to fill a decimated roster, I guess you do what you have to do.

They just picked up Hassan Martin's brother from Charlotte who scored 9 points a game. Cox is a decent coach but he recruits like a mofo.
It is not like the guys leaving URI are moving to programs in a higher trajectory than them. 1 of the URI guys that left might not play D1 basketball anymore.

I am totally cool taking the Dambrot/Cox approach of recruiting over and cutting kids if it leads to more success. Duquesne has been dog shit since you were born and now look at them. Arguably a top 2 team next year

He had some frank conversations with returning players and they obviously read the writing on the wall. Similar to the situation of DP to JDS which I am glad happened.

Tyrese Martin is definitely going to a P6 ... some really good programs on his list since he entered the portal.

Otherwise agreed. Mekhi Long was never going to do better than URI; I’m shocked he’s transferring.

Dana Tate- 4 star URI kid that didn't pan out is going to Siena
Tyrese Martin- Looks to be heading to Arkansas
Marial Mading- Looks to be heading back to JUCO
Greg Hammond- 3 star playing at almighty UMASS-LOWELL
Omar Silverio-Hofstra
Greek kid- playing ball back in Europe (no other offers)
Mekhi Long- unknown

And he brings in the Mitchell brothers: Makhi is amazing and Makhel could still probably get minutes for Mason next year. Same people complaining about this mom also used to slander AJ's..... Martin (who can score at mid major level as a youngster), Abou Ousmane (picked URI over a slew of power 5 schools), Elijah Wood (4 star with a kickass offer sheet) and Ishmael Leggett (kid from St Johns in DC who is a great player that turned down multiple P5 schools). And he still has at least 1 scholarship left.

I wouldn't worry about Cox or URI. In fact they could be better next year if Fats returns.

No way is URI going to be better losing Dowtin, Martin, Long, and Langevine (I don't care how supposedly good Wood and Leggett are as freshmen), especially if none of these incoming transfers gets a waiver to play right away, also especially if the Fatts Russell of the back half of the year is the one that shows up.

Don’t forget they also have Obi Toppin’s little brother and because he’s Obi Toppin’s little brother he’ll dunk 6 times a game and dominate the A-10 just like his big brother Obi Toppin.
