So... Too Early to Talk About Next Year?

Would prefer we go a traditional transfer that sits one than get another freshman in this class, if that's the case; preferably a big (since we'll be losing Calixte, AJ, and Mar), but anyone, really, would work.

I’d prefer it too. We are looking at a large reload of talent for 2021, and probably a year of 8-9 underclassmen so we could definitely use some bridge talent to help the youth.

Yes, but if Kier says he wants to come back if he can do you just tell him too bad we're moving on?
I would move on from Kier. I think he’s a good player with great leadership skills. But I don’t think he is talented enough to carry the team. Next season will be the sixth rebuilding year so might as well move on.

Team hasn't played a meaningful game with him on the roster for 4 years, so I'm not sure why anyone would expect that to change with an extra year...

I can see 3 outcomes from bringing Kier back:

1. Kier gets a wavier, kills it. We still finish 8th. Dave says that we are right on the cusp as we graduate our 3 top players.

2. Kier gets a wavier, has a down season. Dave says it’s always tough to know how guys will come back from lingering foot injuries. We all talk about what could have been. Yet another season of Dave’s hard luck because of injuries.

3. Kier doesn’t get a wavier, we go into the season with an incomplete roster yet again. Dave talks about how it’s tough to go all offseason planning to have a guy like Kier only not to have him because of NCAA bureaucracy. Some are pissed, some blame the NCAA and say it’s not Dave’s fault.

It’s kinda a no lose situation for Dave with the Kier situation, no matter what happens he has a built in excuse.

I know in your brain you see Dave take a senior lead team to probably the 5th seed in A10 where we go on a run and win the tourney. Dave then calls you on the court and acknowledges this could not have been possible without you defending him with every ounce of your energy and you two finally share that special embrace on a national stage.

wake up Jim we suck and we are probably going to suck next year too

We’ll see what happens. If we do suck again you’ll probably get your wish for a new coach ... I guess I see no harm as a fan in being optimistic and hopeful for a Richmond-style turnaround.

We don’t have a grant golden or gilyard or Blake Francis. We have AJ Wilson, a streaky shooter Javon Greene a good not great 3 man and a bunch of question marks. This roster isn’t Richmonds. Hope I’m wrong

I'm pretty confident in our 2, 3 and 4 spots (Greene, Miller, AJ)...it's the 1 and 5 spots that are big question marks, and then our bench -- too many non-scorers on the bench last year.

The second question mark is, does the team sandbag it on defense like they did last year when their shots aren't falling? Third is, can we tighten up the unforced turnovers (the stupid ones like throwing alley-oop passes off the top of the backboard, or dribbling the ball off your thigh)?

Here’s one reason for optimism: barring another year of ill health, none of our starters will have to play as many minutes as they did last year.

The incoming freshmen are going to push for meaningful minutes right away. That depth will allow AJ, Javon and Jordan to play fewer minutes.

Less fatigue = better execution, especially at the end of games where we consistently struggled to execute.

If kier doesn’t come back I don’t like anyone off the bench taking any of the three you named minutes. Can’t wait to watch a Mar and Calixte lineup for 4 mins a game next year. It is truly a masterpiece.

I get having 8 playable guys isn’t ideal it just sucks when only 3-4 of them are A-10 caliber. Now if that miraculously changes with the 3 new guys then great but that’s a lot to ask for a freshman playing in a good A10. Class B NEPSAC and third rate AAU is not the same as the A10 Jim.

I’m not talking about them playing 20 minutes a game. But I’m quite confident they will be able to come in and give 8-10 minutes apiece without being completely outclassed.

If Kier comes back, we’ll be able to have either him, Javon or Jordan as the sixth man. That’s depth we haven’t had in years, plus Jamal to come in and knock down 3s off the bench.

At that point, the Polite-Henry-Kolek trio would be vying for the 8-10 spots in the rotation — and that’s assuming they can beat out seniors in Mar and Calixte.

They all move up a spot if Kier doesn’t get the medical. In that situation, we’d need one of the freshmen guards to be ready to play right away.

Regardless, we’ll be in a better situation if we can finally avoid having our core 3-4 players having to log 35-plus minutes every night.

Agree on a lot of the above, but to be fair even on an injury destroyed roster last season only 2 players averaged over 30 mpg (Javon and Jordan) at 32 a piece.

I am not sure where you got your minute info from. Nobody was at or within 3 mins of playing 35 per game even with a roster that looked much like Fordham's in quality.

I also agree with a lot of what you posted.

Lets say Kier isn't coming back (I think he is but NCAA are notable f**kers in situations like his). You have Hartwell at 6th man and then what would your bench rotation be? Yours, not DP's. We all know Mar will be 7th and shouldn't but I am curious about yours. Polite is the only recruit I am unfamiliar with. Kolek is bleh to me and Henry is going to be great in two years. You have Daddy and Calixte as well to divvy up mins with. If Kier doesn't come back nowhere on Paulsen's track record can we say he will go out and get a grad transfer that can play right away.

Here is my answer: 1. XJ 2. Javon 3 Miller 4 AJ 5 Oduro (not because I think he is good but we have nobody good at the position), 6. Hartwell, 7. Calixte (not good either but 5 is our weakest position), 8. Polite (just from everything you and the DMV guys cream your pants about daily on here about how he is the best recruit Paulsen has ever had even though his offer sheet was of the quality of Daddy's) 9. Mar (again Paulsen will have him a lot higher which is just straight wrong) 10. Henry 11. Kolek 12. Daddy

That roster is not of the quality to be top 4 like some have said on here.

Without Kier only an insane person would think we’d compete for top 4 next season. My optimism about really making a significant jump is rooted in him getting the medical redshirt and coming back healthy to play alongside AJ, Javon and Jordan.

I guess it felt like more ... XJ played a ton of minutes in conference because Jamal was sick and then hurt.
