Preseason games mean nothing. vcu lost to some team last year even more obscure than Liberty and they went dancing. Take it with a grain of salt.

I feel like people here are taking the preseason rank as an insult. We have a young team and one of our best players has to sit the year. I don't think anyone thinks we're a bad team. Everyone raves about what Paulsen has done for the program, hell even vcu's board constantly acknowledges he's legit. I think people just realize next year is our year, not this one.

I get it - but allow me to enjoy any sadness they experience. Even if its just an exhibition game. Having them get smacked down at home is just pure awesomeness. 15 year old single barrel bourbon sipped off the nubile breasts of a lovely woman kind of awesome.

Oh I mean it's hilarious, mainly because they lost to a sunday school. I'm just saying that people tying the result to their preseason ranking are reading way too into it.

The difference between last year's vcu team and this year's is that last year they had five seniors and just didn't take a D2 opponent seriously enough in the exhibition. If I recall correctly they played lethargic and terrible and still only lost by 2 or 3.

This year's team just isn't that good. They have some talented pieces but they have no rim protection and that means their gimmicky defense is easy to score against if you can beat the first trap.

They lost by 16 to Liberty at home. They allowed Liberty to score 51 in the first half.

They get the benefit of the doubt because they've been to 7 straight NCAAs, but last year's team would blow the current group off the floor.

I'll be on a podcast with the By George guys to talk about A10 projections this weekend (Petey's first podcast!) but I definitely agree that vcu is getting a benefit of the doubt ranking. Not that they don't deserve that, but the A10 is littered with question marks outside the top 3 (URI, Bonnies, and St. Joe's) and vcu has as many question marks as anyone else.

They return around 75 minutes per game, most of that in Tillman and Williams, and they have a new coach. De'Riante Jenkins looks like star in the making and they've recruited very well, but we don't know their starting lineup, what the rotation looks like, where the points come from, or even how they'll defend without Alie-Cox back there to play eraser.

The issue is that with so much uncertainty in the A10 this season, there's not another team that obviously belongs above them.

GW is going to be horrible this year which makes me crazy that these pundits keep having them ahead of us. St Louis should be much better than GW too.

Good stuff, very informative. I never pay attention to what the other teams are doing so it's nice to have a little more perspective on them.
