When this stadium finally opens we should have a cricket match, basketball double header, softball game, soccer game, indoor track & field meet, swim meet, and volleyball game on the same day. I don't care if some of the sports are out of season I want pure chaos around the intersection of 123 and Braddock.
The crazy thing is that Braddock west of campus - between 6 and 7pm on game nights, during rush hour, is not even backed up - and that is where I imagine the traffic would be entering the west portion of campus for cricket matches.

These people probably rarely leave their homes and aren't affected by traffic at all. NIMBYs love to live by things that people like to do (restaurants, shops, sporting events, etc.) and then complain that other people want to come do/experience those things. Like your property value is going to go up because your house is by things that people want to do and see. You don't even have to pay the organiztaion (GMU) that is going to build those things! Your property value is increasing and all you're doing is sitting there complaining.

I could go on and on...

NIMBYs are a scourge on society and should be defeated by whatever means necessary. Just selfish, entitled assholes. Hopefully Mason shoves this project down their throats with a side of STFU.

It’s one thing if Mason decided to sell the land to a company who planned on building a chemical plant there, but we are talking about a rather small cricket facility that will be in use only part of the year and mostly on weekends I’m sure.

NIMBYs’ whole shtick is to act as if every project proposed near their precious homes, however benign, is a toxic waste dump.

I covered a community meeting a few years back where people argued vehemently against the county’s plans to put a PUBLIC PARK next to their neighborhood. That’s when I knew these idiots were not to be reasoned with.

"INTERNATIONAL T20 SUPERSTARS RETURNING FOR MLC SEASON TWO

The sophomore season of Major League Cricket (MLC) will again feature many of the world’s best T20 cricketers, with all six teams retaining multiple superstars following the conclusion of the international player retention window.

The finalization of international player retentions kicks off the roster building process ahead of the 2024 season, scheduled to launch on July 4. Teams will now be able to sign up to a maximum of nine international players to their respective rosters and have until the end of February to settle on the retention of their domestic players from MLC season one. The domestic player draft will then follow in March as teams build out their rosters for the coming season."

"New Washington Freedom Head Coach Ricky Ponting is ringing in the changes following his recent appointment, with a pair of left-arm bowlers being the only two retained international players from 2023: left-arm spinner Akeal Hosein of the West Indies along with towering Proteas fast bowler Marco Jansen, who both claimed seven wickets in the inaugural MLC season."

"
Further details on the 2024 MLC season, including schedules and ticket information, will be released soon."

Mission Statement

We, the Concerned Neighbors for Sustainable Development, unite with a shared commitment to preserve the residential character and environmental balance of our community surrounding George Mason University. Our mission is to actively oppose and halt the construction of a cricket stadium on the university premises intended for commercial use, diverging from its original collegiate purpose.

We believe in the importance of maintaining the integrity of our neighborhood, fostering a harmonious coexistence between residents and institutions. The proposed commercial cricket stadium poses a threat to the tranquility of our community, bringing with it increased noise, traffic congestion, and potential disruptions to our daily lives."

"On Jan. 29th by accident a neighbor stumbled upon a zoom meeting in which, George Mason University announced they are building a new 12,000 seat open air stadium. The stadium will house a commercial professional cricket team for Major League Cricket (MLC). This stadium financed by the MLC owner will also serve as home for Mason’s baseball team. Groundbreaking for the stadium is set for this winter with events going live in summer of 2024. Leveraging GMU’s special state designation, the professional team owner was able to bypass the normal rigor that would have gone into planning and permitting a new stadium until it was announced there would be imminent groundbreaking. We are here to gather inform our neighbors of what is happening, the impact it will have on our safety, density, and community and let interested parties know when there are meetings, as well as, contacts to share your concerns and petitions. The effect of this commercial venue, if not planned properly, will have an impact on many city and county neighborhoods and schools. CURRENTLY THERE IS NOT MUCH INFORMATION AVAILABLE TO THE PUBILC. (Ex. Traffic studies). George Mason has done little to share plans with neighboring communities."

"GMU West Campus Development Plans
The Braddock District Office has heard from residents who are concerned about George Mason University (GMU)'s plans to build a temporary cricket facility on its West Campus property. If successful, the temporary facility could lead to the construction of a larger, permanent cricket facility as part of GMU's broader West Campus redevelopment plans.

As shared in a previous Advisory, because GMU is a state university, projects on its campus are not subject to Fairfax County's land use, zoning, and approval processes. That said, Supervisor Walkinshaw shares the concerns of area residents about the potential impact on nearby neighborhoods, and the Braddock District Office staff have been working to ensure that GMU engages with the community and addresses the concerns in a substantive way.

Recently, GMU President Gregory Washington wrote an open letter to neighbors of the campus. Additionally, you can learn about the project and submit your feedback on the GMU construction website. GMU and representatives of the Washington Freedom Major League Cricket team have offered to meet with community organizations to talk about the proposal. The Braddock District Office would be happy to help you connect with them."

Would soccer cricket and baseball fit in one stadium? High point is converting its minor league baseball stadium to also host its new pro soccer team.
