GIVING DAY 2023
Every day after Hewitt was hired, TOC looked more and more like a fool. If those are anywhere near the numbers that Turner comes to…….it will be a giant cherry on top of the TOC moron sundae.

It's just a pure guess. I'm just thinking Edwards won't want to give as high a base and have incentives really prop up the value of the contract.

I can walk away from this process and at least feel it was competently done. I can feel good about this deep down so I can sleep at night. My God what a difference a good AD can make. And better yet EL Presidente is out on vacation letting Brad work it through. It almost gives me a middie.

I will say if we arent offering $500k base with huge incentives, to a D1 coach who has had success and is coming to the A10.....then we should be embarrassed.

I will wait for the numbers, but I will be shocked (and impressed) if we went low on a proven HC, considering what other coaches are getting and/or stayed at their current schools for.

A New assistant I could see.

AMEN. If it wasn't too weird I would send a "I Love You" email to Edwards.

Few thoughts from all the previous pages:

1) Turner appears to be the coach WE deserve.

2) If anybody in the admin or AD office is unhappy with Edwards, then its the lazy a** knuckleheads left over from the Merten TOC days. Mason needs a kick in the cajones.

3) I am sorry you found my "on the crack pipe" twitter account for those special moments. I am so embarrassed.

You're probably right. I'm just looking at the fact that UCI was only paying him $260,000 in base salary with pretty crappy incentives. Figured that bump in base with much better incentives would be fair on both sides.

His coaching staff also has some local/East Coast ties - Assoc. Head Coach came from Radford and played at Davidson and another Asst. Coach also played at Davidson. It'll be interesting to see who he brings over.

Either way, I def. want him to retain his Dir. of Basketball Administration. Think of it as a consolation prize for those who wanted Levell "Motown" Moton as our coach.

They would have to put "obstructed view" on Jollay's tickets since he sits behind the Mason bench.

So, as I read a little more into this, I'm liking what I'm seeing.
The past 4 years his teams have consistently ranked well in Assist percentage which (to me, anyhow) indicates that he runs good, structured, ball sharing offense. This has been true whether they've run fast pace, or slower (they've been one of the slower teams in the country the past couple years, I'm guessing in no small part due to Ndaiye)

Additionally, the fact that he can play fast or slow is encouraging to me, as it indicates that he'll play to the strengths of his talent (something I felt El Cubano Octegenario never got enough credit for, and Hewitt could not do)

Additionally, they've shown a huge improvement in defensive efficiency the past 5 years.

I'd be VERY curious to know what systems he actually runs.

Key things to highlight: adapting to the talent on your team; continuous improvement; strong ball sharing; and defensive efficiency. You had me at not Hewitt.

If he adapts his offense and defense to his players, I am going to guess that he's going to run some version of a double post offense to make sure Thompson, Jalen, Porter, Marko or Royal touch the ball on every possession.

On defense, if everyone stays, given our length and athleticism (and dearth of shooters) we are going to run a trapping defense and try to generate a lot of turnovers and runouts for easy buckets.

It all sounds like hot porn to me.

Russell Turner looks like a good candidate. I like that he's a former NBA asst. But, I would like to see Juan Dixon get a look. He's been an assistant at Maryland and was a key to the turnaround this year. Schools and ADs are realizing the NBA guys know a lot more than the college guys (Hoiberg, Ollie, Manning, Mark Price, Mullin, etc..). Plus, Juan Dixon is from Baltimore and played at UMD. Great recruiting credibility.

This is what boggles my mind the most about Hewitt. Why bring in all of these atletes if you aren't going to press, trap and run after creating turnovers? He turned what should have been our greatest strength into a non-factor if not a weakness due to our horrible half-court system and lack of shooters.
