Would be sweet if Mason and the NIL folks did a merch collab, capitalize on the buzz of the team right now and drop some merch for the A10 Tournament!

We get to buy some new gear and contribute to NIL at the same time.
Mason. Are you talking about
George Mason???

Would be sweet if the NIL website could be updated this year. Looks like it hasn't been updated since 2023. Still lists old and non-existent players on the site.

Here's a question. Obviously, my $25/50 donation will mean nothing. Will they also look at the number of contributors, or just the final $ amount. If it's just dollars, count me out.
If $30 can keep an ASPCA dog out of the kill shelter, $25 can feed and medicate a hungry child in ___________ country, and $7 will ensure that Politician A beats Politician B in an election, your $25-50 donation will go a long way.

In all seriousness though, every donation does help and I'm sure that number of donors has its importance as well as total $$$ raised.

I just dropped a 50-spot to them as well.

"Title IX does not apply to name, image and likeness (NIL) deals, the U.S. Department of Education said in a statement Wednesday, rescinding the Biden administration's guidance that schools must equitably distribute direct payments to male and female athletes."

'The NCAA and its power conferences have agreed to allow each school to share up to $20.5 million in direct payments to its athletes via name, image and likeness deals as one of the terms of a pending antitrust settlement.

Many major college athletic departments plan to distribute the majority of that money to athletes in sports that generate the most revenue -- mostly football and men's basketball players -- leaving a small portion, often less than 5%, to women's sports."

"Noah Henderson, a clinical instructor in sport management at Loyola University Chicago who has previously advocated for universities to provide equal access to NIL opportunities but not proportional distribution of NIL funds, said Wednesday that he supported the department's ruling, noting that NIL dollars are separate 'market driven' funds unlike university-provided financial aid.

Regardless of the education department's decision, he said the issue likely will face legal challenges from female athletes who feel the system 'violates Title IX and unduly burdens them.'"

Odom got 20k

I believe Skinn only got 10 large for winning 20. Also, Mason players are only getting 85k compared to just under 400K per player at vcu.

How does Mason become competitive with top programs in the conference to sustain success?

The average working American makes $60k a year or less.
Higher in the DMV.
Many would have a problem sacrificing to pay college basketball players.
Is it a better use of funds vis a vis donating to Church, feeding the homeless, etc., etc?

Would Season Ticket Holders kick in an extra $25 per month?
or a 10% to 25% ticket surcharge?
Would it make a difference?

To what extent would it cannibalize current tax-deductible donations to GMU basketball?

Can multi-millionaire alumni be developed?
Without conflict from the larger university, also courting those individuals?

Are corporate donations legal?
If so, what would they get in return?
Jersey patches? Seats for employees?

Same for local rich people.
Considering the history of the development of the GMU fan base this is a very difficult problem.

Odom was also a head coach for 6 years with a lot of success at Utah St and UMBC before taking over at vcu. I would expect his contract to have better incentives than Skinn's first ever head coaching contract. Hopefully Skinn's next contract will have significant bumps to get him more towards the top coaching contracts in the A10.

The worry about the spending on players is definitely a concern going forward. While our NIL has done a good job keeping us competitive, the upcoming revenue sharing will really separate the haves and the have nots. Would love to know our plans going forward and how much Mason is planning to spend on players.

In answer to your first paragraph, the answer is absolutely YES!
I contribute to this site. I buy merch. I am in the Patriot Club. I have ESPN+ ONLY to watch Mason Bball.
My other contributions go to my church, missionaries, and those who have nothing: homes, clothes, food, school supplies, etc.
That's it.
Those who can afford it and want to, give all you can to NIL. Help Mason succeed, by all means. I want us to win. But it's not even close to being a priority for me. It's a sport. A fun pastime. Something to enjoy.
But not one dime is coming from me to NIL.

It’s what will determine the likelihood of us enjoying seasons like this one in the future.

We know vcu will be committed.

Three things separate vcu revenue from Mason’s:

Ticket sales: Mason is -2.1 million
Rights and Licensing: Mason is -1.7 million
NCAA Revenue: although vcu hasn’t been as successful the last 6 years as the previous 6 (I’m not sure if 2021 counts or not since they had to forfeit that game). Still, they are getting a fairly significant higher share of A10 NCAA winnings than we do right now.

First two things are semi in control of the fans. Get to EBA, and buy merch, particularly Adidas licensed products.

Oh I know. They were the example because they made the 4-5 million dollar figure public. I’ve heard that another local rival of ours is expecting to be in the 3mil range.
