Of course. You see this kind of behavior more and more at the HS level too.

You even see parents disrupt their kids NBA careers now. Anybody know the famous recent local example I'm referring to?

Coaches just don't want to deal with this garbage anymore and it factors big time into recruiting when they can identify lunatic parents early.

Easy to ID usually in a HS/AAU gym. Will affect Key's career eventually if it hasn't already previously.

He's got time to rehab his ankle and his image this season, if he chooses to. I would, there are certain lunatics in our fan base base for years that will not let things go.

And then he'll end up a sad old man coaching a team tied for 13th place in the ACC.

My daughter plays middle school travel basketball, and even at THAT level, you have parents going to coaches with complaints about playing time and such in front of the whole team and other parents.

I get it, we love our kids, and we know they care, and we want to see them succeed, but it's REALLY ridiculous these days.

Most of the time, in my opinion, its parents who are failed people and are leaching onto their kids for some level of success and validation. Then it gets worse when potential for money comes into play. The shitty values some of these parents have will come to light soon enough in the college basketball world and other sports. For them, its no longer a privlege to play. They deem it their right. We have lost our way folks.

I get that we're all frustrated. We've all heard the rumors, and this is hard, but this reminded me that we have a rule about this and we can't cherry pick which rules we will follow and which ones we won't.

Rule #3 - Rumors concerning an individual's private life are not permitted, when said rumors are not a matter of public record. This includes ANYONE (including but not limited to athletes, recruits, parents of athletes/recruits, coaches or administrators, other users of the boards, beat writers, Site staff, et al).

I think it's prudent that we limit our talk to what is reported, and remember that these are kids - not professionals. What some of us are hearing through various channels is probably part truth, part exaggeration. We should not circulate wild conspiracies, but seek to confirm the truth first. It would be really shitty if an incorrect narrative about a student-athlete tainted an otherwise good career at Mason.

If they are getting paid, aren’t they by definition a professional? He’s about to be 21 years old, at what point do we stop calling these grown men kids, especially when they are making adult money and adult business decisions?

Well... the discourse about Hall's status is from a group of fans and stakeholders who are trying to make sense of rumors by engaging in an exercise of discovery and reason. Part of that discourse involves identifying, culling, and dissecting the rumors to arrive at a reasonable conclusion. Therefore, an attempt is being undertaken to confirm the truth via consensus using the collective knowledge of the members of Masonhoops. Certainly and obviously, there's a very fine line between spreading rumors and analyzing them. However, how does one analyze the validity of a rumor if the rumor can't be posted and vetted?

The kids defense is going to go bye bye in a hurry when we literally pay these legal adults' salary.

Wonder what FOIA stuff we all can get now? Locker room transcripts?

Interesting side question.

For the record, I still stand by that statement. I haven't expected Hall to come back to Mason next year for quite sometime. I still don't expect him to appear in a game the rest of this season.

I mentioned this before and people were hoping a relationship with Tony would help, but it's just a different game now.

He came to Mason, put up big numbers, and any high major will gladly bring him in (they're already experienced in dealing with big personalities).

A10 basketball (and other leagues below) are the minor leagues for major D1 schools in a no penalty transfer world.

How do you propose we get answers? Do you support lobbying the student newspaper to ask the questions we want answered regarding this situation?

I believe early on Tony stated in an interview that his intentions were to recruit from the DMV with the thought being that players would be more likely to stick with GMU so that friends and family could see them play and remain connected to the area. If Key leaves then that may reinforce his recruitment strategy. Time will tell if it makes a difference.

Yeah, a kid (not a professional) who's about to make at least six figures—a pipe dream for most Americans.

Dartmouth went 6-21 this season. As someone on Twitter (I didn't save it) said, Dartmouth's next play could be to fire them all with cause for poor performance. What's their play here?

(I'm not necessarily against players unionizing, it could solve some of the big issues facing college sports, but I question the strategy and potential consequences for a team like Dartmouth)
