Yea, I don't see using the search firm as that much of a problem. They do the initial legwork and we make the final decision. It's not like the candidates won't meet with our staff before they are hired. This just gets the weeding out process going. Also offers everyone deniability, if asked. Same process happens at most BCS schools. It's just kind of how things are done now unless you go the one man show route like we did last time.

I understand Parker isnt making the final decision, Brad will, etc etc.

It's just they are handling Fordham too, and we're spending $100k+ (rumored) for them to assemble a list that most of us could have done.

vcu uses Villa 7. Mason and Fordham are using Parker.

Do we see a possible/potential correlation there? ;)

After almost a decade, Villa 7 has helped about 90 assistants get head-coaching jobs, including Smart, Grant, Marquette's Buzz Williams, Memphis' Josh Pastner, Illinois' John Groce, Xavier's Chris Mack and Southern California's Andy Enfield, formerly at Florida Gulf Coast.

We don't know what our search committee looks like. For all we know, TOC could be on it!

We gave Hewitt an $85K bonus two weeks before we fired him. What's another $100K to try and get this right?

Also, I see only one name that has been officially "linked" to both the Mason and Fordham jobs -- Will Brown -- and he's no better than No. 10 on our candidate list. As far as I'm concerned, they can have him if they want him.

Between Prohm, Moton and Young, we have three much better options.

How is Moton in the same boat as Prohm and Young. No way.

vcu no longer runs Villa 7, and hasn't since Mike Ellis left for Minnesota with Norwood Teague a couple years ago.

I agree! Let's see how this plays out before we criticize the process. I'm certainly grateful of Parker's role in hiring Edwards.

This sort of reminds me of the movie Bring it On where the girls bring in a pro to choreograph their routine for them (after realizing they'd been stealing routines from the inner city school for years) and it turns out that pro had sold the same routine to another school in the competition. They sure were embarrassed at regionals. OK, maybe this isn't all that similar, but that movie is definitely one of the top 3 cheerleading movies I've seen.

Behind Fired Up, of course.

Dont care who runs it now....I just know the school that would use and the type of coaches they have been able to get...

Hell our commissioner Bernadette goes every year....

Other than Shaka, who are the coaches hired through Villa 7 who have knocked it out of the park?

I know it's gotten a lot of assistant coaches promoted, and I'm certainly not arguing its value, but there is more than one way to skin this cat.

It wont be Bobby Hurley.

He signed a new deal with Buffalo:

The deal would put Hurley above the $550,000-a-year base-salary contract that Saul Phillips receives from Ohio University. All the of the increased money UB would give Hurley was raised from university donors over the past two or three weeks, a source told The News. It will not come from the university's state budget. Alumni excitement over UB's run to its first Mid-American Conference championship and its first-ever NCAA Tournament appearance pushed the fund-raising effort forward.

Good for them. I never liked the guy.

Young didn't have a winning record at Wofford until Year 7 (and that was 16-14). He's had great success in 5 of the last 6 years, but that scares me.

Interesting. 12 hours ago ESPN reports hes interviewing for the DePaul gig this weekend, and now hes got a contract agreed to in principle.

Oh well.

I was going to make a big time donation to help our efforts in landing a new coach, but then I look around my house and start thinking about maybe putting in some new hardwood floors, new countertops, or maybe even a new hot tub out back.

Decisions, decisions.

Hurley can probably just put up 2-3 more good years at Buffalo and then jump straight to an elite level job...like a Syracuse or maybe even Duke?
