Then what's the difference?

I'm asking this seriously, not to be a smart-a**. This is a lost season after 5 games.

Why wait until March 2015 to do what should've been done in March 2014?

So Brad can give assurances to any prospective coach they will be treated fairly and given full opportunity to turn the program around - just as their predecessor was given.

Hewitt could get fired today and only a total moron would argue that he was treated unfairly.

If you are going to make a change, why not wait until the second semester starts in order to keep any players from transferring after the first semester? I'm sure there will be some defections either way if Hewitt is axed, but that additional half year of eligibility could be the difference between keeping somebody like Holloway or giving him a season and a half at another program.

Exactly right. Do NOT fire Hewitt until next semester. I don't think these guys are duds, just poorly coached.

You really think he is going to sit out a year just to be able to play a year someplace else? I'm not sure I see that happening regardless of our coaching situation.

Tom,

You can't transfer during the season and retain a half of season of eligibility.

Pretty sure you can. Anyone who left after our final first semester game would be eligible the following December.

Jim,

You're confusing the 1 year of mandatory redshirting with the total seasons of eligibility. For example, Vlad transferred after playing in a few games in the fall semester of his sophomore season. He became eligible to play at AU in December of the next school year. His sophomore season at Mason counted as 1 year of eligibility. His junior season at AU included just the spring semester. He then played just one more season (his senior season) at AU.

GS,

I believe that we all agree on Hewitt's deficiencies. The question is when should he be terminated?

I would say about halfway through the A-10 schedule, especially if we are sitting as far below .500 as I think we probably will be.

Players can come or go based on what they feel comfortable with. I wouldnt worry about losing a good player because of the need to fire an awful coach.

But...to me...doing it now gives time for dust to settle and for BE to talk to these kids like adults an re sell the university. If they still go so be it.

I would think its more a problem to try to hold kids in the usual coach change window...as the semester is about over, they're heading out the door etc.

We're 1-4. It's not like we're dressing out the second coming of Phi Slamma Jamma. If people leave then fine. You have to look at the big picture. I'm sure some players left when Coach L was hired.

Totally agree. Worrying about who goes because of a coaching change is just too short sighted. We need to be in this for the long haul. Hire the best person for the job and the rest will fall into place.

At this point, I would think we would see just as many transfers if Hewitt stays. No one wants to play for such a clueless loser.

Realistically, it is unlikely a rising senior is going to transfer. Nor is somebody who has already burned their redshirt. So that leaves us with 5 players that don't fall in either category: Isiah Jackson, Eric Lockett, Therence Mayimba, Marquise Moore and Trey Porter.
