Actually, this is their second choice behind Grant, who will not have his contact renewed at Alabama. If Grant does stay, they will go after Jones. Word is that Jones and family really miss DC. Well, that can be understood- Norfolk or DC? Not even close.

For all the talk about UCLA, they won the PAC-12 in his final year and he landed a top 5 recruiting class that was the core of Steve Alford's Sweet 16 team a couple years later.

Ordinarily, I'd agree QD, but there are a couple factors working in our favor:

1. There have been several P-5 jobs -- including Missouri and Tennessee -- open up since Howland left UCLA and he was only considered for one (Oregon State).

2. There aren't any jobs open that are head-and-shoulders better than ours right now. Alabama and DePaul can both obviously pay much more than we can, but the first is a football school and the other has been a coach's graveyard since the early 90s.

I have no proof that there's any mutual interest. All this speculation could be totally for naught. But if we could get him, it would be a home run hire and instantly restore the program's credibility with the fan base. The guy is a great basketball coach.
