No matter who we hire there will be red flags about them. They haven't won enough, haven't won the right way, is too this or too that. Heck, Coach K or Roy Williams could walk through the door and people would be saying how they are too old! All we can do is be supportive of the hire.

Warning political analogy follows: The Dems are attacking Hillary now because they realize she has too much of a record. A person with a record can be destroyed by the interpretation of that record. Dem strategists realize that the way to win is to follow the playbook that worked with Obama and SCOTUS nominees, i.e., it is easier to get someone elected/confirmed if there isn't a record to defend. The easy route for Edwards (or any AD hiring) is to hire an assistant even if it means passing over a good coach with HC experience. If some idiot on a message board isn't happy with the hire he could create a Twitter account @FireBradEdwards.

I like Cherry because I'm tired of watching ugly-a** offense and he learned under Dean Smith, one of the greatest offensive minds in the history of college basketball.

I truly believe we have guys who can be so much more than what they've shown under Hewitt. They just need a coach to put them in a system that turns their individual strengths into a cohesive unit instead of forcing them into roles for which they are obviously ill-suited.

I don't think Edwards will give any consideration to having to defend his hire, he will look to hire the best candidate who can win the most games, and it is the Coach's performance his hiring decision will be judged on, not the Coach's prior record.

At the very least GMU would have a TON less turnovers. Every time I saw HP on TV their game total of TO's was about the same as a Hewitt coached team accumulates in 5 minutes.

Taking care of the ball ... what a novel concept for some coaches.

What an exciting finish. LaSalle did everything wrong down the stretch, and Davidson did everything right. Exactly what you'd expect from both teams and coaches.

Ben Howland really wants back into coaching.

I know everyone is a little gun-shy with a "retread" but not exactly a Paul Hewitt flash in the pan. Big Sky, Big East, Pac-10, & AP Coach of the Year, two Sweet 16's at Pitt, 3 Final Fours, & 1 National Runner-Up at UCLA.

Probably would consider him another Tubby Smith type firing. It's tough to be the coach of a team where not making the Final Four is a failed season.

Howland would be a steal. A highly organized guy is exactly what our program needs after four years of Hewitt-pocalypse.

Notwithstanding the end of his tenure at UCLA, he's a terrific coach.

The question is, can we afford him? And if so, how long will he stick around if he's successful?

He's covering the A-10 this year, hope Brad has at least had a drink or two with the guy. If not to discuss the job maybe to get some ideas of who he thinks would be a good candidate. Howland has an impressive resume.

Covering the A-10 for whom exactly?
