Pardon my rant, but this is just another example of how the ugly breakup with El Cubano has killed this program, compounded of course by the hiring of Hewitt. Look how many solid programs survive the departures of their heralded coaches (Butler, vcu, Gonzaga, etc.) because they've built a coaching tree and/or established a style of play they don't deviate from. We did not do that in any way, and now four years removed from relevancy we need to be reliant on striking gold a second time instead of just continuing to build an established program. F*ck Larranaga, Merten, O'Connor, Shaka and everyone else who deserves some of the blame.

I think we should stick with Coach Hewitt. We came really, really, really close to beating UNI and they're a good team.

So basically someone needs to email TOC and Merten this video:

When Larranaga left, I wanted Prohm. When Hewitt goes bye-bye, I still want Prohm. He's proven himself.

How much of a raise do you think we will have to give him? Last article I could find said he was making 270,000 from the school and media contracts pushed him over 300,000 total. Would he come for 450,000?

Probably have to double his current pay to 600K base and throw in a bunch of incentives.

He's gonna have a lot of options. If we want him, we'll need to pay.

You want a guy that just got fired because he couldn't win games? seriously?
No..it wasn't serious. Just making the point that for the most part, finding the right guy from the assistant coaching ranks, is a real crap shoot. When he was Bo Ryan's assistant, I suspect hiring Moore as a head coach looked like a good decision. When he winds up only winning about a third of his games...not so much. Similarly Earnie Nestor as an assistant at Wake Forest in the Tim Duncan years looked like a good head coaching hire.

Thus it's either the up and coming assistant or the "less splashy" lateral/upgrade HC.

And I would take either of those any day versus the guy that just got canned. Unless it was a true TubbySmith/UK situation.
