GIVING DAY 2023
We had Shevon Thompson, Jalen Jenkins, and Marko Gujanicic all on the same team like three seasons ago...

Not to diminish your enthusiasm, but that's a short lens you've got there.
Loved all 3 players but I wouldn't call that depth. All were tainted from the virus. Shevon couldn't pass out of a double to save his life. Jenkins came off a season where he tried to be a dribble penetrating 3. Marko had severe foul issues and his def was terrible.

Two fully usable bigs, it's been a while. I'd say Pearson and Mike Mo.

There's no shame in admitting when you're wrong

Fair point.
Ehhh....I think you were right honestly. Calling Marko and Jalen centers is a stretch. Jalen made the role his own his senior year but when Shevon was there he and Marko were 4's. Marko kept popping 3's for f**k's sake. Plus Shevon was super unpolished. Between the three of them we had like 1.5 centers. Reuter/Calixte is a far better combo than any combination of 2 of the other 3.

Revisionist history, I'd say. Tell me the last time we had our back-up 5 average 7.1 and 5.5?

Plus, Pearson was a 4, not a 5. We didn't have much going on behind Mike Moe

Who averaged that? And I didn’t say anything about Pearson.

Jalen did...who split time at the 5 with Shevon Thompson (Jalen's moving closer to the basket and his effectiveness there is a big reason why Shevon only averaged 23 minutes per game his senior season).

I mean, I agree that Paulsen was asking Shevon to do different things and he looked uncomfortable out there (especially when he was double and triple teamed) in the first 10 games of the season, but by the second half, he was destroying those double and triple teams. I mean, what held us back that season is having to rely on a bunch of freshmen in the back court (and we had almost no depth back there beyond the starting 3).

I’m not saying he wasn’t effective. What I’m saying is I’m confident is a Reuter/Calixte combination is going to have a higher output than any tandem of the aforementioned players at the 5.

I’m not really trying to compare the two, just trying to advocate for my boys and say they were good enough to be in the conversation of good depth at the 5 (by the way, if we can get the kind of production out of Rueter and Calixte that we saw at the end of 2015-2016 from Shevon, Marko and Jalen, we’ll win a lot of games).

Right, but a lot of the time they were on the court at the same time with someone occupying the 4 spot. I’m talking about having a true backup at center (although Dave has said we could see two bigs at the same time so maybe the same thing happens this year.)

Looks like Reuter has the skillset to effectively play the 4 if we wanted to have him and Calixte on the floor (and by looks like, I mean, the limited clips we've seen from him so far).

I think it's been a long time since we've had this kind of depth (probably the 2010-2011 season) up and down the roster -- and I'm not even counting the freshman, with a lot of interchangeable parts at multiple positions:

PG: Otis, Kier, Greene
SG: Kier, Greene, Grayer
SF: Grayer, Boyd, Mar?
PF: Mar, AJ, Reuter?
C: Reuter, Calixte, AJ

That's 9 deep even before we talk about what some of the freshman can contribute (JDS looks really promising right now). It's been a long time since we could say that.

Watch out if someone can become a consistent 3 point threat.

I really hope this team is like the 2010-2011 team. Such a would rounded group of players.

Otis (38.2%), Grayer (35.4%), and Mar (35.7%) all not bad. Kier and Boyd dragged our efficiency ratings down last year.

If Reuter is a stretch four who can play post inside and spot up from 3 then Mason can space the floor, provide room for wide open kickouts or easy transition pts at the rim. Everybody's fg percentage willl go up.
