Jarred Reuter??

I don't wish ill will on anyone, however after letting it seep in overnight, I think it's best for all parties involved to encourage Reuter to leave as a grad transfer this offseason. He could arguably be the worst player on the team.
No one will give him the playing time DP does.

We need a 6'9 talented GRAD transfer or we are toast next season. Reuter and Greg are not the answer!!
I want to see Greg get the bulk of the minutes and play with the true starters. I think he would shine even more.

Jarred Reuter is fatter than me. Our coaching staff was shocked that he plays. Seems hes been spending a ton of time in the dining hall!

What scares me the most is Paulsen making a statement of he will be an A-10 POY candidate. The player evaluation, or lack there of, is what is scary about this staff.

Show me a coach who has never whiffed on a player evaluation. He doesn’t exist.

Should Dave have waited to see Reuter in a game before gushing about him? Absolutely.

Has Reuter been far less than we thought we were getting? Obviously yes.

But Dave has been right on several other players that nobody else was interested in. One particularly brutal misfire doesn’t change that.

Even if he sucks he still provides some depth. He’s shown some ability and if nothing more can be a leader. Bringing in someone new doesn’t mean it’s better.

I’m reaching, but it’s probably better having him around. It just is.

What have you seen from him that shows he can be a leader? I am not saying he can't, but I honestly have not seen anything from him that shows he can lead. The more I watch him the more I think he is Chris Fleming. The only thing I have seen from Jarred that he does at an average rate is pass the ball. I am not saying he should transfer because we can use as many big bodies as we can get but if we go into next year with him still starting at the 5..we are in trouble.

I see him directing guys on defense, I also credit him with helping calixte’s development. I’d expect as a 5th year senior he’d be some sort of leader by default. But I don’t have anything concrete.

Calixte is more than adequate. There are some who think Santos-Silva from vcu is a first-team all-A10 player and he did jack squat when Greg was in the game. He’s a strong defender and dependable finisher.

In retrospect it’s obvious he never should’ve lost his starting job because he’s 1,000 times the player Reuter is.

The odds of finding a big who can come in and right away be better than Calixte are slim and none.

Several other players? Outside of Otis and maybe Kier or Miller (haven't seen enough from him yet), who else has DP been right on? He might have found some average players, but most D1 coaches aren't interested in average players. If we have "several other players who he has been right on"then we should be sitting in the top 4 of the conference unless there is something else going on like bad coaching....

If I have to make a list for you, you must not be much of a Mason fan.

100% agree with the majority of this. But I do think it could be feasible to find a JUCO/Grand Transfer big who could come in and be better/provide more than Reuter. Someone who is serviceable on the glass and can play defense. I don't think that's totally out of the realm of possibility.

Been a Mason fan for over 20 years and a season ticker holder/donor since I graduated in 2007 but that really has nothing to do with my question. As an Alumni Athlete, I take pride in wearing the Green and Gold and understand the ups and downs that come with being a NCAA athlete. I try not to bad mouth student athletes but I am also a realist. I read this forum a lot (don't post much) so I have seen how you are consistently backing DP. So, if he has been right on several players and he is a good coach then why are we barely an average A10 team? Seems to me that having good coaching and good players would translate to winning more games.

There is big difference to miss evaluate talent when you see them playing against high school competition. However, DP made his A10 player of the year comments after saw Jared in practice for a year.

Its also not the first time he missed evaluated talent at the 5 spot. DP was pretty vocal about Troy too. Big miss there.

The fact that Dave signed a kid who had MAYBE one other D-I offer and he turned into the No. 4 all-time scorer in Mason history should more than cancel out the Reuter miss.

In the same class, he found a second 1,000-point scorer in Grayer.

Kier wasn’t good enough to get an offer from JMU and likely will be an all-A10 player.

Miller’s best offer was Radford.

Calixte, Boyd, Greene and Hartwell were all lightly recruited guys who are/will be starters or major rotation players.

Now go f*ck yourself slappydick.

My exact thoughts. Everyone seems like a role player. Would any of Mason players start on a top five A10 team? Even Otis.

I wouldn’t care if Paulsen encouraged Reuter to play elsewhere next season.

Kier and Otis would on most... hell even Jordan Miller probably would.... so if Dave is a good coach and we have good players why do we suck?!? Something just doesn't add up to me

The A10 is garbage this year. Mason has its best team in 4 years, and they cannot capitalize on it. I will agree to disagree with you. I cannot envision any mason player starting on a top five A10 team this year, let alone a competitive A10.

Man, I hate these type of responses. Make the list for all of us fake fans please! Did he even strike gold on Kier and Otis? They’re arguably average in the A10. Will we have a single player honored on any of the A10 teams? Can we give DP credit for settling on guys other teams in their own backyards didn’t want? Praise the players, thank the players, show them all the respect they deserve but let’s at least be realistic when talking about them amongst each other in comparison to other teams in our conference and the rest of the NCAA. Otis deserves everything he got last night, he’s a top 5 favorite player of mine but he’s simply not a top 5 PG In the A10 this season and that’s a large pill for all of us to swallow. Often it’s hard to separate fandom from realism and a guy like Otis makes it even more difficult because he’s leaving highly decorated in Mason history, he gave us everything he had and he was a class act doing so. Unfortunately I think all the minutes finally caught up to him.

Glad to see you’re officially willing to be honest about Reuter, I agree that Calixte is more than capable of carrying the load and don’t mind Jarred coming off the bench. DP didn’t just whiff, he dolled him up and was flat out wrong. You want us to name a coach who hasn’t whiffed on a player, how about you name a coach who has claimed a guy would be top 5 in the conference just to have said player come nowhere close. So far away from the truth that he’s not even top 5 players on the team. I’m starting to feel bad for Jarred, he didn’t ask for any of this, he loves it here and just wants to play but damn did his coach set him up for the hate. Calixte should have been starting by game 4, simple as that.

Doesn't matter if you score 100o points and play major minutes if you don't win games. Just because you are playing major minutes doesn't mean you are a good player-just means that the rest of the team sucks. I like the guys we have but if they are "good recruits" and are being coached by the right guy, then why aren't we winning more? You can't have good players and a good coach and lose as bad as we do. Hell, Chicago State University has 5 guys averaging over 25 minutes a game but they have won only 3 games...I guess that means their coach "hit" on several recruits no one else wanted...
