Gameday Experience

So after attending the A10 tournament and experiencing the open seating I’m going to throw this out there because others are mentioning similarly ideas in other threads.

I have season ticket and I donate a certain amount to get my specific seat. However, I hate that I have to be surrounded by non season ticket holders, especially when they are not mason fans.

I understand the tiers of donating, you get better seats the more you donate, but why not do something similar to the A10 regardless of how much you pay season ticket holders don’t have to sit next to vcu fans or random people who don’t really care? Fill in the lower bowl with season ticket holders regardless of donation tier with the caveat that the lower donors are subject to moving at the end of the year until they lock in at a higher level.

Another option may be to do something similar to the monthly pass where you’re seat changes every game based on availability, but because you’re a season ticket holder it’s guaranteed to be in the lower area.

Also, with the change, we’d have to then throw in some other perks for the higher donors so they don’t feel like they should donate less and get the same seats.

I think this could help in several ways:

1) you have your most dedicated fans closer the court and in proximity to one another
2) it looks better on TV and better for the atmosphere. I’m assuming season ticket holders are more passionate and willing to cheer and that could be coordinated better if we’re all together
3) possibly opens the door for higher donations when someone sits in certain seats for a season and want to guarantee them again and there really is demand for tickets.

I’m sure there’s holes in this but I’m trying to be creative.

Thoughts?

How about rewarding fans for actual attendance rather than donation level? Provide upgrades to those fans who attend the most games in prior seasons. Hell, I've missed only one game in the last 15 years. That should put me at center court, row FF, no?

I'm I the only one who thinks our crowds are pretty good considering this program has given little to nothing to root for in about 8 years? It's just not that interesting to follow or watch guys.

There was one season (or maybe two) where people could get a rewards card to swipe inside the arena at every game. The machine had issues off and on, but some of the rewards were pretty good.

I remember those - I used those machines to get items such as Gold Room passes. I thought it was a good idea.

As a season ticket holder who rarely misses a game, I admit I cashed in "attendance" points regularly. Center for the Arts tickets (that supplemented my limited season ticket package to the CFA), free loaves of bread from Great Harvest, University Mall (and maybe Cinema Arts?) theater tickets, and a variety of 2 for 1 deals at local restaurants. Don't really remember Gold Room passes as an option.

One of the drawbacks from a marketing perspective was that you didn't need to actually attend the game to earn points--all you needed was a friend to swipe your card when he/she went to the game. Having waited in line behind such designated "swipers" was a bit frustrating, especially during halftime when you were anxious to get back to your seats so you wouldn't miss any of the game.

I think when they replaced that system, they started giving away more stuff (bobbleheads, shirts, etc.) where season ticket holders were guaranteed those items in their package.

Yeah - I remember you had to get to quite a few games to work your way up to the gold room pass. There were quite a few other options presented to participants.

Link doesn't work

The woman's team posted some pictures. Looks like just some Yellow... that we call Gold trim. But looks much better. Hopefully soon they'll add graphics or banners

Hey! What happened to the A10 team banners that were hung from the rafters? Did Brad take them down to be dry-cleaned, or something?

I love that the school has semi-promoted tailgating for our basketball games, I would hope today/tonight there is a good turnout since it’s the weekend and JMU is in town.

I know this has been talked about in the past with members for and against but when can we start selling beer at concessions? In reading posts over at ramnation there are some dumb ABC laws that would not prohibit donors to take their beers from the respective green/gold rooms to their seats due to needing different permits to sell verses whatever they need to pour for donors.

Living out of the area I don’t get to as many games as I’d wish to, and am no longer a season ticket holder. When I do make it I tend to be fortunate enough to have tickets to the Green room but would still love to be able to grab a beer during the actual game for my seat. Not sure if being able to buy beer puts more butts in the seats or not, or how much revenue it can bring in but I would hope that it’s at least being looked into. vcu started selling it last season I believe.

The GK team is throwing a rager, First 100 get a JMU dookie koozie. Carne asada and Rolling Rocks on DECK. I have no idea why you wouldn’t swing by lot A and say what’s up. Look for the American and Mason flags flying high. To say we’re hyped is an understatement. Step TF up!
