An announced crowd of 4,410? And that includes the PMPs 6 comps. What an embarrassment. I’m sure someone here will say the Colin Kaepernick workout or Navy/Notre Dame football game influenced the number of asses in seats. Mad props to the sisters dancing with the band. Especially the “blonde”.

Some may have been in Harrisonburg watching their football team dismantle Richmond/winning their 4th CAA Title in 5 years.

Ah, did not know they had a football game on the same day. That's another reason why the long-term viability of this rivalry is in question, because they clearly care much more about football than basketball.

It’s not hard to get lost on a team full of studs, one of their kids just signed with Duke. The high school game doesn’t always lend itself to bigs given guard play and quick shots. Rarely do high schoolers work through their full sets.

We still need to see what he can do vs bigger talent, we’ve faced some smaller centers. He has the size but does he have the confidence to bang yet? His footwork though is what will separate him throughout his career, I’ve seen 4 different post moves from him already.
Everyone keeps talking about his footwork, but I'm impressed with his hands. That's also what I like about Calixte too. they don't drop the ball when they are in good position to score like previous bigs for Mason.

Well, they’re building a $90M basketball arena so they must care at least a little bit.

Isn't that more because their old arena is too small to hold convocation now?

Anyway, just wondering about how long the rivalry is going to last out of conference if the trajectory continues the way it has.

I think they're still holding out on the pipe dream that they'll get invited to a high-end conference because of their football program (AAC or something far better than CAA) but need the requisite facilities. Won't happen, but a new arena will certainly help the school and the basketball program on the recruiting front.

Some thoughts:
-I know the announced crowd was 4k+, but it looked like it was over 5k.
-Thats 23 wins in the last 25 games vs JMU
-I really like Hartwell. The offense moves so much better with him on the court.
-Count me as one who wasnt sure on Oduro, but he has been a nice surprise
-I wasn't a fan of Madison's black uniforms. Purple and gold is such a nice color combo and they ruined it with the black uniforms.
-There was an issue with the corner boards. The reason why it looked like XJ was starting was that the building IT guys were testing the system before the game. They needed to put in starters and happened to select #2 in the system.
-I know our schedule hasn't been that strong but it sure is nice to be 4-0.

Hate to say it because I loved watching Otis, but we’re a better program with Hartwell out there. I’d rather someone score 20 a night as opposed to 30, but be able to play defense, and avoid getting smashed into the ground on every layup. It’s pretty clear we’re more balanced right now, and Kier will add the driving the hoop dimension when he’s back.

I couldn’t agree more loved Otis but he constantly dribbled too much!

I mean for a large stretch of the back end of his career he didn't have Grayer, and our offense wasn't moving/rotating to give him a place to pass so I don't really blame him for that. He just wasn't much of a defender and a lot of games were closer than they had to be or we narrowly lost because Otis was easily switched off someone. Having five guys on defense is a blessing, and it's only going to get better with Kier coming back and AJ improving every game.

This is a well balanced team. I like their scheduling philosophy; warm up games to start the season to gain confidence and a few big games along the way. The A10 looks really good this year, it will be interesting to see how Mason competes.

I think JMU and Loyola could make some noise in March if they win their respective tournaments or make the NIT. Our wins against them might not look good on paper right now, but both teams have multiple scorers and can create matchup problems like they did with us.

JMU and Layola both have talent. But they have coaches who cant coach.
