I was starting to wonder if Coppin had left at halftime. They didn’t appear back on the court until about 40 seconds before the start of the second half. Their warm up consisted of one guy taking about 3 shots.
While the prospect of Anderson and Newton on the floor at the wings intrigues me, I don’t believe anything can really be taken from this game in that regard. Can I brush my shoulders off calling for Anderson over Billups as an option?
I think O’Connor might be our best bet at PG for now. Quigley and Begg both looked shaky for different reasons. KD looked much more comfortable playing off ball and just making plays. I can live with that for now. I do hope we can develop a natural point guard to take his place though.
I think Emejuru deserves a start too. I think having Anderson, Newton, and Emejuru on the floor together would make a formidable front court actually.
How about:
O’Connor
Maddox
Johnson
Newton
Emejuru
KD is your spark off the bench
Billups is your defensive specialist
Cycle Quigley, Begg, and Haynes as necessary.
You have to leave one of Maddox or Johnson on the floor at all times.
Ready for Anderson and Gio to start immediately. Night and day on the offensive end with them in the floor. Still personally prefer KD at the point, and FWIW he ran 12ish minutes of the first half while we built up the lead outside of Andersons shooting. I can acknowledge his downsides and limitations while also saying i still believe he puts us in the best position to win. You just can’t replace his energy. Can I brush my shoulders off calling for Anderson over Billups as an option?

agree and think JMU being next road game also good. Pickup first road win of the year against a team that really isn’t very good. It will tell us if they can win on the road, however fully expect they beat JMU but 10+.Agree with you- but I think we all agree we would just like to see some solid basketball.
Things like
1) Can we cutdown turnovers?
2) Who jumps ahead in minutes in the rotation?
3) What role does KD play? Anderson?
4) Do we look like we know how to play basketball
5) Do we take these games seriously to correct our flaws and have easy wins?
Honestly, these two games couldn't come at a better time for Mason now that I'm thinking about it.
So what's the story on Billups not playing? He looked healthy and was interacting with the team in a positive manner during warm-ups? Injury? Disciplinary?
Don't see any postgame on the facebook account. Help?!
Thanks! Estimate on how long he'll be out? Ferrum is an easy decision to hold him out. JMU is the next game and isn't until a week from Friday. I know these things are hard to predict, although he appeared to be actively involved tonight on the floor during warm-ups and was on the bench. I remember that some players in concussion protocol avoid the arena altogether to diminish noise exposure.Concussion protocol
Not much to add except we need better rebounding (we need someone on this team to be a dog and pride themselves on getting rebounds) and take care of the ball. Only 10 TO , but little to no Pressure from Coppin.
We outrebounded them 36-33 total. To your point Mason did allow 17 offensive rebounds which is probably going to be one of Tony's points of emphasis watching film. However, when you miss a ton of shots like Coppin, you are bound to get some offensive rebounds. Also, 10 turnovers is a much better step in the right direction. If those are the two things to cleanup from a 40 point win, I'll take it.Not much to add except we need better rebounding (we need someone on this team to be a dog and pride themselves on getting rebounds) and take care of the ball. Winning the rebound by 3 against 0-7 team is not saying much. Watching the game, the lack of effort is obvious, not boxing out and lack of hustle to the ball are big issues... See CMUand ECU games. hopefully this will be addressed by Tony in film session. I m not down on this team just looking for areas to improve. We outrebounded them 36-33 total. Otherwise it was nice to see the guys take the game seriously and pretty much do what many expected them to do. Nice to see Zach Anderson get extra run with Billups out and hit 7/9 3s. Nice to see Emejuru score 21 on 8/9 from the field. I also enjoyed being able to watch KD get more run and he was playing hard especially defensively late in the game getting on the floor to go after a loose ball etc. Nice to see.
Hopefully Saturday is similar to last night in a big blowout loss and seeing guys contribute.
I thought about Dre last night at 5 for 5.I figured out why Anderson isn't playing more - favor from CTS to Dre Smith to protect his 10-10 3pt record.
