Game 4: Oklahoma State University (Charleston Classic), Friday, November 20th, 1 PM, ESPNU

This is how I felt at the end of this game.

Jim, nobody is dissing the former staff. They all seemed like good guys, and I was especially happy that Krieder was hired by VMI. I hope he lands his own head coaching gig some day.

With that clarified, I love that our new assistants show some emotion on the sideline and talk to the players when they come out of the game. I love that we have a former star player like Duane Simpkins to mentor our young backcourt, and everything I hear about Dane Fischer implies he could one day be a head coach. Aaron Kelly was with Paulsen for a long time, so he is a disciple of his coaching style.

It just seems like there is more cohesion on the sideline, and I think Paulsen and his assistants deserve credit for that.

My only point was that the head coach establishes the culture of the entire program, including how the assistants interact with the players and whether they are permitted to offer instruction during games.

Not all head coaches encourage their assistants to actually make their presence felt on the sideline. Showing enthusiasm and spirit was obviously verboten under Hewitt.

As a result, our former assistants mostly sat and looked glum while we lost and lost and lost some more.

Reporting back from the RAT. Yes they do have ESPNU although it wasn't tuned to any of their TVs at a little after 1 when I arrived. Not very busy and just 1 other person at the bar watching the game. So the bad news is that we don't have that much of an active fan base on campus on Friday afternoons. Probably not that big of a surprise.

The good news---well, I don't have to tell you what that was! SEC, Big 12, is it too much to hope that we'll be able to add the ACC to our collection by Sunday night? (Probably yes, but if it weren't an NFL Sunday, maybe we'd get some coverage).

There are more classes than everyone thinks on Friday, that probably factored into it.

Maybe......but you can walk into the JC food court at lunchtime on a Friday and just about pick any table that you want. No near what it's like Monday through Thursday.

I remember every single 300 or 400 level class was MW or TTh. The pawn the MWF classes onto adjunct and junior faculty teaching 100 or 200 level courses.

Just watched the game on DVR. Been ducking the bloody score all day. Well worth the wait, that was awesome! Getting wins over the SEC and Big 12 in as many days is good progress indeed!

This is as much fun as can remember having when it comes to this program in a very long time. I feel like a long lost best friend just moved back into the neighborhood. Just beyond happy right now. Kudos to Paulsen. Kudos to Brad Edwards for hiring Paulsen. And kudos to Cabrera for hiring Edwards. We're back and my god does it feel good!

Maybe someone can clarify, but in the first half I don't think the possession arrow ever moved off of OK State. They got at least 3 straight jump balls. In the 2nd half ESPN started posting the possession arrow on the tv score area.

A lot of recitation classes are on Friday, anywhere from morning to 5ish.

Mason won the opening tip, so the first jump ball was correct. But, you are right, the arrow wasn't shown in the scoring until the 2nd half.

Agreed. I thought they actually played pretty damn good defense against us, especially considering they were down a couple of key players (including their star). I wouldn't be surprised to see them in the tournament again.
