KD needs to tighten up. He needs to score more and just play. If you watch only him, he knows what to do and where to be. LIke someone said, this one is on the Coaches. Anderson needed 10 attempts tonight vs that zone. Instead he was in the middle passing ball to Billups for a 3pt shot. How a** backwards is that?

This is why we need more O’Connor playing at the 2. I’d much rather he be out there in the corner than Billups. (I know O’Connor was 0-3 tonight, but that’s also because he was on the ball too much being confused about how to attack the zone.

KD wasn’t the issue tonight. He played fairly well at point other than missing some key free throws. He has an edge that we need come conference play. He just needs to be smarter in certain moments.

Tony had a poor coaching game. The team was not focused defensively in the first half and the offense fell flat. They also did not rebound well tonight. Tony finally figured out later in the game that they needed to get into the paint rather than shoot a bunch of threes that weren’t falling.

Saw some discussion about Begg but he is simply not ready offensively or defensively. He was chucking up threes rather than running the offense and he is not that great defensively. He has the potential to be good but he’s not there yet.

I thought Billups had a nice game other than the last play. He has certainly improved his game offensively and on the boards from last year.

Tough one to lose but I think it will make them better. They probably thought they were going to walk all over this team considering they lost to Stony brook. Mason showed it too with a lackluster effort.

Billups has to shoot better from the FT line and from deep. I was expecting this to be an improvement but when I saw video of him shooting over the summer and none of the takes showed if his shots went in, then I knew his shot was not improved from deep.

I agree on his 3 pt shooting. Unfortunately, that never has been a strength for him. But don't overlook his contributions to the team. He plays with great intensity, especially on defense. He took on Pritchard (#30) who gave us fits with both his scoring and playmaking. And even after expending great energy on defense, led the team with 9 rebounds, many of which were highly contested. He even went strong to the basket a few times late in the game--first time I've noticed that.

i can see why he left 2 schools previously as he can damage his team with his mouthing off to the refs

Glad ESPN+ cut off the end of the game. Missed the last minute collapse. Another year of Mason Mediocrity. 6-8 place finish and a first or second round exit in the A-10 tourney.

I read all the posts and agree with some, but 15 seconds left you just turned over CMU , momentum is on your side a nd you call your last TO-- why? If you could not get the ball in, yes call a TO,but save that last TO and you win this game. That's on coaching. Other issues .missed 11 freethrows, gave them 2 points with the technical, very close to getting out rebounded by a smaller team, other than Billups they out hustled you to loose balls and rebounds. Lack of attacking the zone and settling for 3 PT shots. I could go on, what a disappointing effort.

I’m more concerned (maybe confused is the better word) with how the staff has used this roster so far than anything else. Despite it being early season some things just seem off.

- Newton started 5 games all last season but suddenly is a bonafide starter and is getting a lot of chances offensively, don’t understand his role expanding with the roster we now have

- Anderson has two or less 3pt attempts in 3/4 games, and played just 14 minutes tonight. Why is it such a struggle to get him more involved?

- OConnor is clearly more comfortable off ball and it gives the offense more options, why are they forcing him as a PG/consistent ball handler?

- Begg is expectedly struggling, but continues to get a lot of run. Is KD incapable of playing more than 25 minutes? Is Quigley that bad?

To end on a positive note, Billups is a stud. Don’t care that he can’t shoot, his defense and just overall effort is so valuable and fun to watch.

We also have a real weakness at the 4 spot right now. Anderson is just not living up to the hype and Woody Newton is no better than last year, Billups is the same too. No improvement from the returning players.

With all due respect, I’m not sure how you could watch tonight’s game and conclude Billups is the same. He had 13 pts, 9 rebs and 3 dimes and left it all on the floor defensively as always. He was the best player in a Mason uniform — he’s never gonna be a good 3-point shooter but he has pretty clearly improved his all-around game.

I’m pretty sure they called that TO to stop
Johnson from getting a second technical for jawing. Curran even went all the way to half court to gather up the players.

What a cluster-F***!! For a Mason fan, if that play (or the entire game) doesn't make your blood boil then you've been dead and buried for 37 years.

I don't understand why Billups threw the ball away in the back court like that. He still has two seconds to get it to an open man. There were options.

Can't blame the loss on Billups because too much went awry for. Mason during that game. But... sheeeeesh.
