Watch the film to learn how to attack a zone, then burn it. Defense kept us in the game tonight, but we had absolutely no answer once they stayed back in their zone in the second half. This team has too many shooters to not make teams pay for going 3-2 against us.

Never should have come down to that last shot. We f***ed around for 90% of the game and looked completely lost against their zone defense.

Need to figure out effective zone offense ASAP because teams will zone us to death until we prove we can execute against it.

Begg and Billups can’t finish a game with more 3pt attempts than Anderson. Figure out how to get him better/consistently integrated into the offense.

Horrible loss at home. They need to bounce back in a big way Saturday.

couple things

Our defense pulled us back into the game in an overall shitty performance. Billups and KD led the charge.

When you start recruiting higher level guys like a KD or a Keyshawn you start getting guys who aren’t the nicest on the court and can be headaches. KD is going to talk a lot, get more technicals but also play some decent basketball at times like he did tonight. He wasn’t why we lost but I get he’s not everyone’s cup of tea. I also thought he did a decent job playing point guard a lot of the second half.

Generally speaking we didn’t get to a lot of 50/50 balls when it mattered and lost on an unlucky bounce. Mason was lucky they still had a chance to win. There were defensive lapses and poor offensive execution against their zone at times too.

Tonight sucked, Mason didn’t deserve to win. But there is no way this is what this team is. I have full confidence we will see a much better performance against ECU.

Just the same sloppy turnovers. Poor free throw shooting. Very disheartening.

That loss is 100% not on KD. Out of all our PGs, he is the only one who ran a somewhat coherent offense in the second half. Not excusing missed late FTs, but we aren’t even there in the last minute without him in the second half. Personally like the edge he brings to our team, even with some of the boneheaded fouls. I’ll take him talking all game and getting T’d up if it means we have someone initiating the offense. Beggs flat out isn’t ready yet.

One thing I will say is CMU may not have a whole lot of top end talent but Scott Cherry had this team prepared with a plan to stop us on offense and a way to attack our defense. That 3-2 defense really got to us and their ball movement was 100 times better than ours.

I’m getting really jealous of teams who can move the ball and get to their spots. And really tired of a Mason player dribbling out in front of a zone not knowing what to do.

KD isn’t a PG, likely only offer he got. Is what it is, I actually like that he’s not soft but doesn’t change pg issue. O’Connor also not a pg. Begg plays zero defense and isn’t ready. So that sums up pg. oh well some nights defense will win games but offense going to be issues most nights. Take Maddox out and it’s rough going on points. Defense still good! KD, Billups, woody great on D in general.

Maybe that is way you go and just suck up year as what it is. There will be some good games and a lot of ugly moments. Either way need a pg, problem is no guarentee he comes back if he does get better. Tricky part of college now…

Where is the pressure defense we heard about was gonna increase this year?

KD needs to tighten up. He needs to score more and just play. If you watch only him, he knows what to do and where to be. LIke someone said, this one is on the Coaches. Anderson needed 10 attempts tonight vs that zone. Instead he was in the middle passing ball to Billups for a 3pt shot. How a** backwards is that?
