Ah well. We've had many a letdown loss to end a regular season. I'm just too impressed with what this team did the last few weeks, the improvement shown throughout the season, and the constant improvement in the attitude and energy of Mason players over the last three years to be terribly disappointed by this.

Having just finished watching the game on TV, Richmond deserves all the credit for this game. We played okay, good enough to beat them most times, and they had the best offensive game they've played against us in years. Amazing that was the first time Paulsen's Patriots have lost to them!

Don't really care about this one in the grand scheme but really, really, really want St. Louis to lose tonight. 7th will hurt a lot moe than 5th.

If you had told me three months ago that Mason would be playing for 4th place I’d think you’re crazy.

Obviously a disappointing game today. I only saw half 2 but it appears it was very similar to half one. They couldn’t get stops when they needed to, and when they played defense the ball would roll in. Also a lot of easy layups didn’t go in tonight. Happens.

That said heck of a regular season, terrific improvement from November to March, and especially in league play. Hopeful the team can win a game in dc and very excited about the team next year.

Greene and Wilson impressed me tonight. Defense was absolutely horrendous.

I hear what you’re saying, and I agree for the most part. But this was a letdown. I really, really wanted to win 4th place.

And at the same time, I think this team got really, really lucky in conference play this year, in a down year for the A-10. We only had to play the top 3 teams once each. We played St.Joes once down Demery. UMass down Pipkins. Richmond once down Buckingham. Seems like there were more big injuries that impacted games in our favor. It also took 4 buzzer beaters to get 9 wins.

A win in the conference tournament would make me feel much better.

I'll be honest. That was a total sh&t show defensively. How the hell do you give up 93 on your home floor? Answer, the team doesn't value playing defense. I had us at 16 wins best case, should have had that tonight but the effort simply wasn't there.

This is my one big concern next year. Where is the defensive intensity? You can’t always outshoot the other team, but you can lock in on defense. No one should shoot over 60 percent on our home court ever.

Does DP have a defensive adjustment when the "let them shoot three's" approach backfires?

Sucks to get a team when they are hot. Just heard from a Richmond fan it was their best shooting % since Nov 2010.

Doubling the post has killed us all year. Hopefully having Rueter out there allows us to play four out on the perimeter and not give up nearly so many open looks.

I totally disagree with people who are saying our defense sucked tonight. Great offense will beat great defense every.single.time... as my Dad always says, “basketball is easy when your shots are falling.” Richmond was hitting heavily contested shots all night long. What are you supposed to do about that? And our offense kept coming back to make it close.

Their were a couple bad turnovers in this game, but that’s about all I could really complain about. If anything, Richmond had more defensive lapses which resulted in wide open dunks for us.

Just to reiterate, Richmond was hitting VERY didficult shots all night. Long range 3’s, turn around jumpers in traffic...etc.

I’m on the bandwagon and don’t jump on/off when it’s convenient.

They shot damn near 70% for the game. That doesn’t happen when every single shot is highly contested, I don care how good of a team it is.

I didn’t say every single shot was highly contested, and I didn’t say that they are a great team. If you don’t understand the concept of a team getting hot for a game then you don’t understand basketball- sometimes it just happens.

I watched the game on TV so maybe I saw it different, but they were consistently hitting very difficult shots all game. Good for them. I wish we won. On to the tournament!

Interesting stats for our defense. In out of conference games we allowed an average of 72.3 points per game and game up 80 or more zero times in 13 games. In A10 play we allowed an average of 78.6 points per game. Opponents scored 80 or more in 9 of the 18 games. Discuss........
