Game 29: University of Massachusetts, Saturday, February 24th, 6 PM, MASN

Yes, it happens. You don't want it to happen too frequently I assume? I can only imagine how this season has played out for those who watch the games live. It is one thing to follow the ups and downs on a phone or computer.

We did win right? So many complaining we blew a lead again. It happens. We also had Goanar hit big free throws for the second time this year and Ian beat the buzzer for the second game in a row.

Someone in that locker room is living right.
I believe the concern is that we have blown a big lead for the 3rd straight game. Once, not too much to worry about. Three times in a row and more this season = reason for concern.

Its happening a little too frequent I think for many of us. We understand the youth and immaturity, and expect its going to be like this the rest of the season. I just hope we don't see it after this year.

4 out of the last 6 games we have blown big halftime leads.

37 - 26 St. Joe's
45 - 32 LaSalle
32 - 23 Fordham
36 - 20 UMass

2 - 2 in those efforts. Should be 4 - 0 . Just my opinion.

I don’t look at it as blowing big halftime leads, I look at it as two opportunities to win lots of cash. Take Mason on the 1st half line, take our opponent on the 2nd half line.

Easy money.

These types of games are excruciating. Blowing big leads is just a youth and confidence problem. It will get better in coming seasons. If there's a positive to these razor-thin victoies is that they will offer crucial experience to win meaningful, tight games in the future. That kind of confidence is really going to be a good thing.

This year’s team is what it is at this point, but all of these blown leads late in the season make me nervous it will bleed into next year. Hopefully not, hopefully Reuter can stabilize the post and everyone can start putting together more complete efforts and have fewer breadkdowns, but at this point in the season you don’t want to see it happening every single game.

Paulsen’s pep talk before the game: “Tre Wood will be here tonight so let’s sweep the Minutmen and show him what he’s missing out on... oh, and if we build a double-digit lead, let them come back to make it close. NOW LETS GO OUT THERE AND DO THE DEW!!!!”

Watching the video again, what was the UMass coach so angry about as the game ended. Looked like he was yelling at the ref. Also, he seems to be insane. I don't want Tre Wood if he prefers that brand of crazy over DP.

This team reminds me so much of 09-10, when we had Luke as a freshman, Pearson-Morrison-Cornelius as sophomores and Long as a junior.

That young team was up and down all season. They had some great wins but also some befuddling losses, including blowing a 28-point lead to Fairfield in the CIT.

The next season that same team had the nation’s longest winning streak, earned a spot in the top 25, won the CAA regular-season title and earned an 8 seed in the NCAA tournament, where they beat Villanova in the round of 64.

All it takes is a little more experience, leadership and consistency to turn a lot of these close games into comfortable wins. We’re going to have all that and add a quality big man next season. Hopefully we can get Otis and Jaire to the dance because they deserve it.

Why wasn't Calixte in at the end?!?! Paulsen is crazy we need SIZE in there!

Not exactly sure, but he need only blame his players for not competing that last 5 seconds of OT defensively.

Mrs. Profit and I had a good time at the game . From the hospitality tent, to the floor seats to the exciting finish.

The attendance was 4,228? Didn’t seem to be near that many folks. Where were the students? Do they count the band as part of the attendance? Seemed like half of the peeps there had an instrument.

Livingston is not only a competitor, but a classy kid.

I am glad Hard Times went back to what has worked before, two kinds of chili (there are vegans/vegetarians in the gold room) and salad. I have a feeling someone spoke up to Max about lack of vegan options this season, and the vendors are accommodating.

I am stumped by the student turnout all season (except for homecoming). Sometimes, the students get free food, sometimes it is the same thing as the public can get (which was the t-shirt), sometimes it is something else completely different. There is a shuttle bus that goes around most of the day and well into the night, so a student lives in the furthest dorm, there is still transportation available that drops off by the arena. Midterms are the week after this one, but every class is different when it comes to exams.

Maybe Paulsen and the players need to give out free donuts or something this week on campus a few days in advance of the Richmond game to get support.

Mason has always been a commuter school, but South Side Dinning closes at 2pm. This was a horrible decision by the administration. Students will end up leaving for their parents house for dinner.
