Game 29: University of Massachusetts, Saturday, February 24th, 6 PM, MASN

I think part of it is that they are tired.
I would accept this; however, there is NO WAY we should be more tired than UMass tonight. Also, you can adjust to tiredness and slow your offensive pace down and not crash hard for rebounds on the offensive end. An old coach of mine always said, “you never take a play off on defense. Do it on offense if you have to.”

They keep saying Boyd only had 2 points. I thought he had an offense rebound and put-back.

The ugliest win is better than the prettiest loss, they say.

I suppose that's true, but this one makes you wonder, lol.

Relvao dicked this team when he left. I'm not saying I blame him or whatever he had a family situation, but nevertheless it's screwed the team pretty hard.

We had nobody who could handle number 0, and he would just wipe guys out on screens, or even on just random action around the bucket.

Calixte was a disaster trying to deal with him and actually botched a bunch of other guys up in the second half. Paulsen eventually sat him.

He threw mar around like a rag doll. His presence also opened up things for whoever the super bouncy guard they had was.

With Reuter sitting and all the other bigs freshman, some teams are just going to be able to eat us up down low.

Regardless, wewe did enough to get the win, and that's all you can ask from a fundamentally flawed team with no seniors.

If we played even decently this year we’d have 2-4 more wins and would pretty much be guaranteed a double bye.

Think about that for a second for a team that was picked to finish 10th this year and that pick was before we learned we’d only have 8 scholarship players.

I will gladly eat crow. I really hope I have a huge mouthful of crow at the end of the season. But two huge games left. It's still quite possibly Mason finishes 10th.

Kinda crazy how close the a10 is this year.

Super glad that right as Hurley’s obnoxious a** is on the way out the door I now have to watch McCall clap incessantly at everything instead.

Speechless for the most part. Another tale of two halves. Great 15 minutes in the first half /total sh8t show in the 2nd. Wow. Had UMass fans sitting next to me and told them at the half to stick around because we can't play with or sustain a lead. Happy and pissed at the same time. :bricks::bricks::bricks::bricks::bricks::bricks:

I will admit that thethe group a 5 or 10 guys in the band that would start clapping every time he did made me laugh

Last year with two seniors, we were a second half team. This year, a first half team. If they can put those two together next season, watch out.

GIVING DAY 2023
Another game of survive and advance. Woof.

Few thoughts-

-Great to see Jaire back in the swing of things, he went quiet for a lot of the second half but hit two threes (could have been overtime), and coach said he had 10 rebounds. Its great if his foot is feeling better and hes able to perform like that.
-Mar was able to save the day at the end of regulation, kid just knows how to win.
- This team is going to drive us all bananas. Great first half, second half they forgot how to shoot, go on offense against the zone and play defense. I know they need to mature, but man its frustrating.
- Kier keeps getting to the bucket and its a thing of beauty. Love watching it.
- Otis and Jaire continue to be the straws that stir the team, they went quiet for much of the second half and its hard to overcome. Fortunately they got enough to win.
-The sloppy play at the start of the game and the start of half 2 has to be cleaned up. They looked like they lacked focus which was very disappointing. But that once again comes back to maturity since it was mentioned they did not have a good practice yesterday, so it goes fairly hand in hand.
-For those wondering about why Mason goes small down the stretch, coach mentioned its in regards to having the best rebounders on the court.
- Loved that coach told the team to race down the court if Umass tied the game in overtime. He was one step ahead and I'm glad that Otis and Ian took advantage.

Glad to get the win and move to 8-8 in conference with two games left, and it looks like Mason is out of the PIG and will somehow finish around mid pack. Glad that'll happen with the down league, and hopefully they can build on it going forward.
