I originally typed that after the banked three lol, hit send a bit late.

Blake is not D1 caliber. He is very slow, weak, and has a 1 inch vertical. He is probably an average shooter when wide open but he does very little except play with energy. Obviously, I’ll root for the kid and I don’t like criticizing kids who play hard but he really lacks the fundamentals to play at this level. And before people say he is only a freshman and learning the college game, he is 20 years old and has more experience playing against grown men then most of the guys on the team.

GIVING DAY 2023
Can’t wait for Wednesday. I liked in general what I saw from Blake Jones down the stretch. He had a good rebound and good defensive stop. That said he gave Gilyard too much space and had to be a little closer in that type of situation.

Have to find a way to take care of the ball down the stretch as well. As well as XJ can play he is inconsistent and has turnovers at key moments. The bobble out of bounds and letting Richmond get a steal were mind boggling and he nearly had a third until he saved it.

I have to rewatch most of the game, but this one is tough. Let’s hope they can get a split and take Wednesday. I’d be fine with that.

Gilyard just said...with oduro back...do we know this for a fact?

With or without oduro, this team has lost 4 conference games by 10 its total...2 in OT!
Actually...1 in OT. Close enough though...10 points is correct.

The way johnson continually.. and i mean continually coughs it up against even token full court pressure..game after game is an uncomfortable feeling with the rams on saturday..
Is it just a case of too much dribbling most of the time?

It probably wouldn’t have mattered in the end, but man the switching KILLS me. XJ could have easily fought over that screen on the last possession to stay with Gilyard, i don’t know if Blake didn’t communicate that it was coming or what but there was plenty of time/space to work around it. Not saying XJ is a lockdown defender (he’s not), but would rather take my chances over having Blake in that situation.

Think the unnecessary switching has been something KE has mentioned more than a handful of times this season.

Coop need to assert himself more tonight. 7pts isn't good enough for a player with his experience.

Atleast we improved the FT'S!! Sans Henry.

He dribbles into too much traffic and then tries to spin move his way out of it. The problem is he keeps the ball far away from his body. It's a very wide spin so it leaves the ball open to get swiped. That, and because it looks so out of control that even when he gets fouled the refs are never gonna give it to him.

Those 2 passes he threw into Burtons legs with no presuure....mind boggling

honestly, it often looks more like handing the ball to an opponent

While I agree, his teammates aren’t helping him out much either. There was a play with a couple minutes left where jones set a pick and XJ was going to hit him on the roll to the basket. Instead of looking for the pass, Jones started running looking down at his feet the whole time and it threw XJ off and the ball was stripped. The off ball movement is suspect at times and causes the lane to get bunched and clogged. XJ gets to the hoop (and finishes in traffic) better than any mason point guard I’ve seen in 20 years with the exception of Marquise Moore. His shot has also come miles since he came to Mason. Does he the turn the ball over too much, absolutely, but he is not our biggest problem.

Henry and XJ keep making the same mistakes over and over. Cut out Malik's horrible decisions under or BEHIND the rim, and XJ's fumblitis and that game, as well as many others are Ws. They both play hard, that credit is due and paid, but man how many times can one make the same gaffs game after game?

The fumble out of bounds was possibly the most mind-blowing thing I've seen in a while.
