And even with all of that, if we shoot just a little better than 50% on free throws we win anyway. We’re gonna be fine.
I don’t think O’Connor, even O’Connor playing the 1, is our biggest problem.
Yesterday our two best shooters shot 1-10 from 3. That’s insanely bad. Haynes 2-7 from the line is also bad, but that’s kinda expected from him every other game. We need our shooters to, you know, make some shots.
In Haynes defense, he has an injury to his fingers on his shooting hand
O’Connor is actually their best shooter right now by a lot. It’s why it would be nice next year if they can find a pg and he can play the 2 or he really becomes that it guy.
KD has more points in 54 less minutes than Anderson. Anderson has been a major let down to be honest. He was horrid in the mount Saint Mary’s game he just kind of stood there. Is he sick with mono or something? Is that just who he is? His minutes should be majorly cut down unless he can start scoring. 19 points combined in last 5 games is unacceptable.
KD is kind of cray but he’s a better scorer than Anderson too. Only game they won on road KD was big part of it and 2nd leading scorer behind Haynes.
I would cut Anderson minutes down to 5 minutes a half. I know you have all argued to put him in starting lineup but he’s been horrendous. Play him in blowouts at home and on road put grinders in. He’s definitely not a grinder at all.
Problem with KD is you never know when he’s going to lose his s*** and get T’d up. They have about 6 guys for 4 spots at end of game.
Can’t play woody and Jared if you need a basket. Maybe more 2 bigs with O’Connor Maddox and Billups and when need basket bring in KD or woody. I would trust Begg shooting more than Anderson right now as well.
Maddox with O’Connor and a pg with the 2 bigs or Jared/woody comes in to lock on d would be a nice little team.
Begg just hasn’t been that guy either. Too young. So in so many ways a pg would fix a lot of issues. If they had better shooters or scorers O’Connor at the 1 wouldn’t be worst thing alive but that’s not his true value.
Funny but they are not the same.
Not sure when it’s going to dawn on you that Tony put together a team that empties the tank on the defensive end. I assume he did this purposely and that approach has given us a chance to win every game this season except one.
While we do need Anderson and Maddox to shoot it better, this group will win by locking people down and scoring just enough. Complaining about their shortcomings ad nauseum won’t change that.

They aren’t. But I can see why you’d think otherwise lol

I think people are just frustrated that we still found a way to lose despite a great defensive performance. Are we in for more games like this? Or will we actually score/do enough to complement our defense? We shall see.

‘All’ haha. No, I complained about the lack of a pg. I also praised the defense. I said multiple times they win or lose on defense but on road it’s not enough when you do everything else bad, at home it is.
I again said if you can’t take care of the ball then you can’t miss 8 foul shots and go 2-17 from 3. Make foul shots win, make 2-3 more 3’s and win. Their 2 field goal % is good, I’ve said numerous times this season their defense is elite. Saying they would be 14-1 with a real pg isn’t only complaining about offense again interesting way of choosing to read this.
O’Connors problem isn’t scoring, is that the only job of a pg? I think there’s some insane projections here and misunderstanding of what exactly a pg does.
He’ll I don’t care if our pg even scores if he controls pace of game plays great d and we have less than 10 turnovers. Assists and controlling pace of game and getting guys in position to score is his job.
I don’t really care if their offense is scoring it’s just not making insanely bad mistakes at the wrong times. Someone needs to stop up like KD did at JMU when Maddox went down.
coach L teams were all built on D. They also were never great at foul shooting but they didn’t turn the ball over at these rates.
So fix foul shooting (unlikely), stop turning ball over (unlikely) the more likely is Maddox shoots a little bit better but they have to find him better shots. Anderson is either hurt, sick or just totally lost it.
I also wonder if Maddox is still hurt a little…
Many valid points. We have a very good Defensive team--no doubt. If Maddox or O'Connor go cold we are in a lot of trouble. Going 50% on free throws has lost us 2-3 games, even with the TO ' s and shooting slumps we were in every game except Duke and last 3 min at Marq. Make 70% at the line and we win last nite, CMU and ECU games. I know every team practice FT but our guys need to double/triple their FT shooting practice time.

Haynes was nursing his hand. He was shooting FTs all warm up. I believe he knew it was effecting his shot and he was doing his best to compensate at game time.
His form looks okay but he stops the natural leg rise and uses too much arm, imo.
