Yeah, it's really looking like Sherrod has packed it in and is just on cruise control. It's really unfortunate.

Hate to pile on SW while hes down but......f**k is he awful. At this point he's become a detriment. We get our opening possession and Sherrod promptly passes to vcu for a fast break that some how J2 breaks up. He looks scared out there. I would almost feel bad for him if I hadn't seen him hamming it up on the bench with VG. I know it would be a small line up but I'd like to see Pat move into the starting line up in favor of SW. Great effort from Jenkins and Moore. I was really pleased with how calm MM looked handling the ball with Webber all over him.....kid has balls.

Marquise has the tightest handle of any Mason PG I can remember. Weber the thug didn't really do much to rattle him and made most of his "thefts" on our other guards.

He's looking like an absolute recruiting steal at this point. Confident, unflappable, strong and quick. And he's smart enough to know his J is no good, so he doesn't shoot it unless it's a layup or floater.

What a bright future he and JJ have. I really, really like those kids.

Uh, say what?

You still think a team that shot 20-59 from the floor is "light year's ahead" of us?

Let me clarify, we were in a position to win if we had just executed the last 5 minutes of the game.

vcu didn't even make a single field goal in the last five minutes and still ballooned a 6 point lead into a 14 point one.

This was no juggernaut we lost to is basically what I'm saying, just another team we couldn't figure out how to put together 40 solid minutes against.

The only reason we were overmatched is because the refs allowed a climate of streetball behavior continue by the vcu players. vcu shot 33% from the floor, 25% from 3 and were actually outrebounded by us by 2. The reason they won the game is because they shot 39 FTs to our 16, a lot of those, especially in the first half, were total BS calls. That's not superior talent.
Yep...only 2 stat lines stick out here - Fouls and FTs, everything else was pretty even

We couldn't buy a foul to save our life down there. Ugh.

BA and Sherrod turned the ball over way too much for Senior guards. That is not on Hewitt, they need to work on their ballhandling and passing. In big games they CAN'T afford to turn the ball over.

Jalen and Moore had ice in their veins tonight. Very tough place to play and they rose to the occasion. Same with Holloway. If J2, Marko, and Copes can figure out how to score then we could actually do well. Until then our guards will continue to shoulder the scoring load.

This team broke the press well tonight so I was pleased with that.

vcu is a very inconsistent team, if we played them in Fairfax I think we could beat them.

It was a close game until the final 5 minutes so we played well in a very hostile environment.

Keep our heads up high.... we will be ok (hopefully)

I'll give the guys credit for not playing scared. Hewitt actually seemed to have a plan for attacking the press and in the half court. This loss is squarely on the post players and Sherrod, well, that plus the officials handing vcu 39 free throws to our 16. Sherrod just needs to move quietly to the end of the bench and enjoy the view for the remainder of the season. Moving forward we should play Moore, Holloway, Allen, and Jenkins 35 minutes a night. While Allen did not have a great shooting night he plays hard every time out and cares. I loved his preseaon comment about looking forward to vcu, everyone else said Hawaii. Our post doesn't contribute much of anything but between Marco, Johnny, and Eric we have 15 fouls to give and one of them might have a good night. Corey and Sherrod off the bench for a few minutes as necessary.

Do you guys forget that quickly that Sherrod kept us in the game at ODU last Sat. night? I don't think he has checked out, but that is my opinion.

Did Ryan Pearson ever get accused of checking out? Sure he put up a few duds, but you could never say he checked out. "Star" players or the BMOC should never vanish for long stretches and have it end up more often than not....

Sherrod at this point, I feel might do us better as a role player or best option off the bench.

I don't know of any of our guys that would show the determination to win and go flying across the floor to recover a roll-in ball. *sigh*

Determination to win? Gimme a f**king break. The game was already over.

But that's the point with thug Weber. It's all about him. There's not enough mustard in the world for that hot dog.

What nobody likes to talk about is if the zebras called the game according to the rule book, he'd foul out every game in about 5 minutes.

I guess you think it was awesome "determination" when that douchebag sent Holloway sprawling on his meaningless, last-second layup attempt too, huh?

I'd take that "thug" Weber on G Mas. Kid has a serious motor and attitude. They (vcu) can take sweet young man Edwards.

We got screwed on 10 calls easy. I think the refs fall into a similar mindset as the vcu players do. A hunters mentality. Add two female refs and half their team fouls out in first half.

With all the fouls we were committing (or being called for. I don't blame the refs. We are too slow to keep up with quick teams like vcu), at what point do we throw a zone at them to mix it up and keep them from waltzing down the lane for an easy layup or a foul?

I agree, but there were some (10) calls the refs just didn't call that were fouls on us.

The issue isn't the fouls we were called for, it was the fouls that weren't called the other way.

But your point holds about zone. I think Hewitt was concerned about vcu hitting a bunch of 3s and burying us in one big run.

Personally, I don't think it was a mistake to stay in the man. Had the game been called fairly, the final margin would've more accurately portrayed the flow of play.

You can have him. The kid is all about calling attention to himself. He's a preening idiot, and diving for a loose ball with a double-digit lead and 40 seconds left is just the kind of thing a preening idiot would do.

But I'm not surprised you like him. Not one bit.
