Tight game and People sitting on their behinds instead of on their feet and screaming defense.

SMH.
And yes the screenshots will continue till the culture/atmosphere changes smh.

1. I live out of state. 2. I help my parents with doctors and other things. 3. You should Appreciate my passion being what it still is considering how far we’ve fallen. 4. I reach out to athletics a fair amount but to be honest they move on new ideas like an aircraft carrier turning around.

right but the athletic dept should be the ones coming up with innovative solutions to the knitting circle atmosphere. My shaking the parrot cage so to speak hopefully at least gets people thinking about it. Whether or not they act on it? ‍♂️‍♂️

Here are the problems (which psyclone already touched on):

First, your post insulted the fans that actually showed up. That gets really old for those of us who show up to all of the games and even publicly offer free tickets to the games and never get taken up on that offer. Most of us from the boards here that go to the games do a pretty good job of cheering our arses off, but we are in the minority and look like the crazy people. If we could get more people to come we would start to look like the rule, rather than the exception.

Second, you implied in your first post above that you were going to watch games on TV until the culture improved, not because you had other issues going on. Only after you got called out on it did you then change your tune and then say you don't come to games because of other things in your life.

Third, the AD runs promotions regularly for students, they just aren't responding. They spend a lot with outreach to students. We can't expect the AD to do everything when it comes to atmosphere. Additionally, we have people on here wanting spend large sums of money on a coach that long ago abandoned us when our AD is short on funds. I judge our Athletic Department on decision making. Back, late in the TOC/Hewitt days, they were making really bad decisions so I couldn't support it.

Right now, the school/AD are making good decisions as far as the basketball program is concerned. We hired the best coaching option we could have wished for in Tony. Tony is doing an amazing job recruiting with the minimal NIL funds we are able to come up with. The AD/school are supportive of the NIL collective. The AD is hiring strategically on the funding front and people that are generally outgoing to engage with fans. The President is generally supportive of the basketball program. We can't really ask for much more from our school at the moment.

Because our school is doing it's best to support the program right now, I support the program at the maximum level I can. I encourage everyone else to support the program at the maximum level they can as well, whatever that level may be. If you can give 5, 10, 100 or $1,000, then do so. Whenever you can make it to a game, please come. If you can stand, do so. If you can scream and cheer, do that, too.

A 30,000 foot Basketball practice facility scheduled to be complete in 2027 is the proof in the pudding. It convinces 4* + recruits and good transfers that Mason is the place to get NBA ready.

Maybe 10 years ago.
Sad but true. Word has it that Keyshawn Hall agreed to transfer to UCF without once stepping foot on campus. Didn't want to tour the arena, practice facility or dorms before making a decision. He made his decision site-unseen based solely on the highest offer.

Maybe Mason should just scrap the new practice facility and put all of that money into the NIL fund.

Do you think the state of VA would be ok with 15 million of state money going to NIL?

I think the practice facility is important for player development whether it helps us recruit or not in this environment. There will be players who stick around and we want them to get better.

I actually like this! Mason could really benefit from finding an identity. With so much high school talent in the area, they should brand themselves as “Development U,” similar to how Iowa is known for developing linemen. High school linemen know that if they go to Iowa, there’s a good chance they’ll end up playing on Sundays.

All you have to do is look 100 miles down I-95 to vcu, their practice facility is considered one of the 15 best in the nation and a major reason why every one of their recruiting classes have been ranked at or near the top of the A10 since 2015.

Mason is the largest university in the A10. It's the sleeping giant. The right AD, coaching staff, community and financial support, and infrastructure has the potential to turn it into a Basketball Juggernaut within the A10.

Sleeping giant? What have you been smoking? (politely joking with you so don't get all serious)

We've wasted 18 years (should of started formulating a plan right after the 2006 season) to really turn us in to vcu - with community, student, and company/financial support to really invest into our bball program and grow it into something special....yet many of our leaders did not/could not pounce on these opportunities and we have slid down an irrelevant hole.

We can't even get half the student section filled for most home games. We have an AD that just shows up and does the bare minimum each day and collects their paychecks and is content. There is no passion there to actually grow this thing. No one in the AD actually went to mason (I don't think). Patriot club staff is just hired young guns.... in this type of job they usually get a few years experience under their belts and bounce all over to other programs.

Kim English saw this in one season, the lack of support for the program from many lenses, then he looked for the ejection handle.

The vast majority of our student demographics and community is just not into Mason bball. Each year it's the same 2,000-2,500 people who are really into Mason bball and sports. Could be lower or a bit higher, that's my estimate. (would love to know how many people are Green Coat members and the numbers of the Gold Room).

Its the casual fans or families who's Cub Scout/Girl Scout, little league bball team, etc. is performing pre-game, holding the flags for the anthem, or playing at halftime along with coaches/players friends, relatives, high school/middle school coaches, etc. that gives us an additional bump in attendance for our games..... but these types of casual fans are not donating to the school or team outside of buying a ticket, or going on road trips to see the team play.

Hate to say it but its the same stuff every year.

Real exponential fan and monetary growth is a serious subject and needs proper resources, ideas, and money properly focused on this. The AD and school has screamed to us they are addressing this every year but where are the results? The plan? Seems the bare minimum is done every year and that is contentful to the higher ups within the school and AD.

At this point it is what it is. The new bball facility is nice to have but we really should of had that 12+ years ago.

We’ll put and distressingly true. I’ve enthusiastically supported the program for many years but the apathy is slowly building. Given NIL and the lack of creativity coming from the AD I’ve almost checked out completely and think maybe it’s time for the university to consider how it allocates resources.

I hear you. I'm in my 6th decade as a fan, and the continued mediocrity of the program (with the glorious exception of the Coach L days) is getting really old. I truly do understand the "get out and support the team" enthusiasts, but at the same time, the team needs to do something to cause the fans to to get out and support the team. It's a two way street. This pattern of losing OOC and in conference games we should win, thus torpedoing our post season chances (even with the occasional Maryland, Dayton, etc. win), is too same old same old.

I do think Mason overall is a sleeping giant. With regards to athletics and basketball in particular - there needs to be leadership that has a clue and a plan to get the resources to execute. If you don't think it can happen - look at the Redskins. 31 years of utter shit and boom - Snyder gets "old yellered" behind the barn - new leadership comes in with a plan and now the fan base is re-energized.

We should continue with the practice facility -that is in motion.

But we need advertisement and outreach to local high schools both academically and athletically.

Now some of you long term fans complaining about being "apathetic" - sack up and go check your T-Levels. You always support the team and f**k everyone else. Drink some fine bourbon - surprise the wife with late morning booty call in the kitchen - put on your Mason gear and go to the games.

I don't know anything about NIL and other college sports, but Mason Men's Basketball will need a Sugar Daddy or 2 to break into the top echelon of college bball today as the players are all about their cash.
