I get a lot of Andre Cornelius vibes from KD. He makes great passes that are fumbled by the receiver because they aren't expecting them. I guess maybe that makes them not great passes?
I definitely get the AC comparison. I think our biggest issue is our lack of offensive awareness. We throw passes to spots instead of players, we aren’t ready for passes in the post, and we have inexcusable lapses on the boards. Like I said, lots to clean up.

Talking about fan engagement… I want to make visits a family thing, but it’s hard when they say the players will sign autographs after the game and we wait thirty minutes. Some suit wants the line to start moving with only two players present. Anyone know who that suit might have been? I would rather have no autographs than to get my kids excited to be disappointed.

Majority of those people in the "student" section aren't students. They bought cheap tickets off TM I'm assuming.
This is my kids’ favorite games to go to. They get be near the floor, to be near the dancers and cheerleaders, and the cameraman spots them for the Jumbotron. Three ten dollar tickets cost nearly fifty with fees added.

Not sure of this year’s or this game’s autograph sessions, but when my kids were younger we often got autographs. It was typically 2-3 players not the whole team.

Could these “fumbled” passes be a result of those passes not being easy to handle? A point guard must know where and to whom he is passing. The passes should be in a spot where the recipient can immediately shoot, drive, or pass, not having to adjust position to catch the pass cleanly. Also, maybe players aren’t ready for the pass since the dribbler usually hangs on to the ball for too long forcing a desperation shot or pass. KD is too much about himself and not the team. Technical fouls show it.

Is it just me, or do we use Anderson in the complete wrong way on offense? Park him in the corner and let him stretch the defense or get some set looks at 3. Instead, he sets screens at the top of the key or runs a weave. I don’t think I’ve seen him score on a pick and roll yet this season.
You are correct. Mason does not use Anderson correctly. In fact he is the most under utilized starter on the team.

When Skinn goes small..they overload one side of the floor and let him post up. He is not onl possesses a exceptionally post game but has great vision passing out of double teams with his back to the basket.

Yet again, begging you if you are so passionate about the atmosphere, show up and be the change you want to see. Not disagreeing with you that it’s like a church on Tuesday afternoon at home games but if people don’t start coming to games and bring the crazy person in their row nothing is going to change. We’ve got plenty of keyboard warriors at this point, not enough fans who actually give a damn. I was personally impressed we could get 3k+ to show up for a Saturday 2pm tip during Christmas break.

I hear you. Of course, we all would like to go to every game, home and away, tournaments, etc. And I understand the frustration of the "I attend and cheer every single game crowd," but not all of us can, and it does get old hearing them tell the rest of us that we "don't give a ----, or to "shut up and get our a---s to the game." We are all fans in our own way. We should be appreciated for belonging to the Patriot Club, supporting this site financially, or even just following and posting here. Frankly, I'm tired of being told what to do by people that don't know me.
And if that's playing the victim, so be it. At least I'm not sticking my nose into other people's lives.

No fees if you buy at the EBA ticket office. I know that's not convenient for everyone, but it certainly works for me. Although there is no faculty discount for general admission tix for men's games, there is for women's games---$7.50 is a great price for a team that's 11-1.

Seemed like many more people attending the game than the announced 3,295. I know my section (102-- behind the visiting bench) was WAY more crowded than usual. Lots of young kids and families.

Having gotten general admission tickets for them, I had hoped that my grandson and his dad could sit somewhere near my usual seat which typically has very few people in my row and hardly anybody in the several rows in front of me. Not so today which was more like it was a game against vcu. I'm presuming that today people buying general admission tickets just beat us to EBA and grabbed those seats.

lol. The boards are notorious for accusing the team’s only fans of not being true fans.

Drives me nuts.

Cuts both ways. It isn't just insulting folks who live too far away to actually get to EBA or have other family obligations.

Criticizing people who actually attend games but aren't on their feet screaming "DEFENSE" like they might have done when they were 40 yrs younger isn't like to change behavior. At least they are buying tickets and supporting the program and players by their sheer presence.

right but the athletic dept should be the ones coming up with innovative solutions to the knitting circle atmosphere. My shaking the parrot cage so to speak hopefully at least gets people thinking about it. Whether or not they act on it? ‍♂️‍♂️

Let’s focus our discussion on the game that occurred against Mount St Mary’s and not on who can attend or can’t attend. I debated on making other comments but I think the best approach is just to get this thread back on topic for now. My dms are always open.

Thanks all.

As far as the game, the second half was much better.

Few things

1) really felt like playing a vcu little brother. If it did, it’s because their coach is a vcu disciple. They didn’t go away, pressured up and down crashed the glass and hit threes. Made for a tough game.
2) Haynes was an absolute beast today. He’s been great the last several games and we need him to continue to be great as Gio has been struggling.
3) it can be fun to hate on Kd but he contributes and helps out in the backcourt. Sometimes he throws too fancy of a pass that can’t be handled or a pass that isn’t handled and should be. I’m surprised he’s not turning into a star in the backcourt for us, but he’s definitely filling a solid role. He is a more polished Cornelius and faster/more in control.
4) Plenty of things to work on before Tuesday. Would rather this game come now in the nonconf since it allows for extra preparation. Davidson will play a much different style but Mason will need to take care of business especially at home.

First game we missed because of illness(I think we got it at the Duke game). Anyway, watched on tv., I agree with Matt and others, Jalen is a beast out there. He isn't always pretty but man he gives effort. I hear what some are saying about KD, yes he makes mistakes, but look how easy if is for us to bring it up the court when we are pressured with him handling the ball. Look at the easy dunks and layups with him distributing, we need him in tough situations. Agree with most on TO s and foul shooting , just not sure that's going to change at this point. A win is a win on to A10 play. Section 130 not represented thanks to those damn dookies.and

- Jaylen is a beast rigbt now
- As usual, the assist/TO from the Pg position is horrific: 5 assists/10 turnovers

O'Connor 2/2
Begg. 1/3
KD 2/5

vcu, St. Bonny, Dayton and any A10 team with a legit press will eat or PG's for lunch in the first 10 minutes of the game if we keep this up?

Not really sure what the athletic department is supposed to do about fans in the stands once the game starts…

I’m finally sitting down to watch the game after flying all day. The doldrums started when Emejuru and Billups came in and we went two bigs. I don’t think I want to see that lineup again (Johnson, Billups, Haynes, Emejuru…no thanks). I think Skinn’s comment about the 4 has as much to do with Jalen Haynes as it does Woody Newton (who I think wants to play guard rather than power forward—and is the one standing in the corner waiting for a pass rather than the one setting screens for the actual shooters on the team).

Big adjustment in the second half starting Billups and pressuring MSM them bringing the ball up the court to slow them down and force them into their half court offense. That was a big difference in the game.

Johnson’s problem is he refuses to play simply. He always goes for the spectacular and most of his turnovers were a result of trying to thread the needle in traffic needlessly. As a fifth year player that’s not great.
