Maybe my expectations were too high, but I was not impressed with Reuter. Yeah, he led the team in scoring, but I thought the ball really stuck in his hands and gummed up the offense. As others have said, he looks out of shape. He didn’t rebound nor defend well. Only 1 assist, which was a handoff to Otis.

Often we describe guys as doing intangible things that don’t show up on the stat sheet. I thought the reverse of Reuter in this game. He got the scoring stats, but maybe hurt the team in ways that don’t show up on paper.
I'm going to go in a different direction. I'd like to see him get the ball more. Feed him in the post. He does not have to shoot each time, but when the ball goes through the post, that opens up everything else. He is capable enough that it will force the defense to collapse (at least for a team like Penn), then we get open looks. He is a good passer. I'd like to see that put to good use. I don't want him driving from the top of the lane. That is not a good use of his skill set.

Couldn't agree more. Think of Reuter as a poor man's Jai Lewis. Granted, Jai had a quicker first step had the luxury of playing with Will his last two years, but we still worked our offense through the post and played inside-out. Of course, this only works when our guards/wings can knock down open threes and mid-range shots, but at least we'd be getting more open looks.

I agree with both of you. But that’s not what I saw in game 1. Whenever he got the ball, he just tried to bulldoze his way to the basket. I know he can be a good passer, but he didn’t show it yesterday.

My original post was a bit harsh. I’m not condemning his ability. I just want to see him used a bit differently in the offense and to see some more balance (rebounding, passing, defense) to his game.

That was Paulsen's loss not the players. The best players in the game should have been on the court at the end of the game. I don't know about the rest of you but I am so tired of Paulsen playing his favorite players all the time instead of wanting to win. It's ridiculous. he will allow his favorite players to turn the ball over several times a game, loose their defensive assignments over and over again but let one of his non favorite players make one mistake he benches them. Disappointing

Grayer's dad, or whoever it might be, is pretty spot on. Boyd and Grayer should of been in there last part of the game. He picked javon who missed one ft, and what 2 layups, and let a Penn guy go right by him for a layup in final min? Having javon in and Grayer was all Dave.

And while I think back about Dave's comments on Reuter, more questions arise. Does anybody remember how much Dave was singing praises of Reuter? He is high IQ, he is an all conf player, he is so awesome blah blah.....dude cant even run up and down the court!!! How can you be so ignorant to blow a guy up that can't stay in shape? I dont wanna knock reuter, I think he brings a lot to the table, but DP can and was misleading. Maybe bc the pressure to win now is getting to him? Maybe the mt. Dew is eating holes in his brain? We've seen the used car salesman's shtick before. Mason fans cannot be tricked. Just be honest or downplay the kid.

Reuter wasn't the problem or the reason why Mason lost the other night. Can we at least give him a few games to get back into the flow of playing division one college basketball after sitting out for over a year?

Do we think Javon has really surpassed Grayer on the depth chart? OR is it just a product of getting Grayer back into the swing of things? I find it hard to believe you'd "demote" one of your senior 1,000 point scorers. But damn, Grayer has to be out there more, especially down the stretch.

Are there stats anywhere on the plus/minus for each player? That would be interesting to see.

It is not the first type DP hyped his incoming players. Remember the hype for Troy? It still surprising to me that AJ redshirted while Troy and Dixon played.

I understand AJ was raw but Troy and Dixon were not athletic and had no skills.

I did and still do have high hopes for Reuter this season.

Just a gentle reminder he did have a double double in the scrimmage and put up 15 points in the Penn game. His ability to pass from the post is above average.

The future still looks bright...

Reuter was gassed and while there really isn’t any excuse for it with his time off, he’ll be fine. If he’s putting up 15 while out of shape, he’s not going to get any worse. 15 is far more than Calixte would have dropped.

Please don't say Reuter played well in the scrimmage because he got a double double over a bunch of 6 ft 3 dudes that couldn't jump.. he was also blocked or stripped by those same guys 4-5 times....

I don't understand why some ppl don't trust Paulsen yet. He took a dumpster fire and has made it better every season since he's been here. Where is the trust? Question his rotation all you want but the guy has proven himself.

last year he had one inbounds play that never worked under the basket... he switched it to one inbounds play that seems to work
but bah GAWD if you think keeping AJ, Grayer even Hartwell out while we pissed away that game instills trust then you are drinking the diet Mountain Dew too hard... piss poor player management and ole defense cost us last game.
