This'll be fun. Miserable at times, but fun. Wonder if this starting lineup means we don't play many/any minutes with both Wilson and Calixte on the floor. Two quick thoughts:

1. Mar isn't built to defend the 5. We go hard on the pack line scheme again and sell out on preventing the ball from getting into the paint. Lafayette is returning a 6'8" senior forward who averaged 16/6 last year. This'll be a good early test of our ability to deny the post.

2. Fun wrinkle - we've now got five guys who can hit threes in the starting lineup. In fact, all the non-Calixte minutes will feature five shooters since AJ can step out and hit threes too. Paulsen teams have never been super three-happy but I'd love to see that change this year.

I agree it's a lot more than what you want to see, but there are a varierty of reasons for the transfers, at least most of them are not Paulsen's fault:

Trey Porter - lazy/didn't want to work hard for Paulsen
Isaiah Jackson - recruited to BCS
Patrick Holloway - team cancer/lazy/bad attitude
Eric Lockett - lazy/didn't want to work hard for Paulsen
Danny Dixon - recruited over
Daniel Relvao - family issues back home
Kameron Murrell - recruited over
Deandre Abram - personality issues
Kamari Newman - personality issues
Troy Temara - personality issues

Of all of these, I think Abram, Newman and Temara are the only ones that are really subject to fair criticism (he recruited them), but when coupled with all of the others, it's very concerning and can not be something that can continue without out siginificantly effecting our competitiveness on the Court (any more than it already has).

But this is the Lafayette thread, so F Lafayette. Mason 71, Metro Stop 50.

I'm going to call bull$hit on this.

I'm still very happy with the Paulsen hire. I think he's gotten great results from being in an exceptionally bad position in terms of hire date and roster.

But being a head coach isn't all X's & O's it's the totality of the team including recruiting and administration of the program. If Porter and Lockett were so lazy, how come they've gone on to have solid play with their new teams? If Dixon and Murrell weren't capable of playing of ever playing at this level why were they signed instead of holding onto the scholarships for later? If Abram, Newman, and Temara all had personality issues, then some of that has to be on the coaching staff that offered them scholarships.

I'm still on the Paulsen train and I see good things coming, but I also think it's OK to admit disappoint in some areas. And if you look at what we had on the roster from Day 1 of the Paulsen hire to the current state - 0 scholarship seniors, 2 juniors, and picked to finish 10th, it's disappointing.

Half of those guys were shit players, that's why they were available when Paulsen came in late in the recruiting process. They were temp players, he had to fill a roster.

Did a single person on here have Mar, Kier, Boyd, Grayer and Otis as the starting 5? We all don't know shit.

Mar is the only curveball to me. I always thought it was possible that Kier and Boyd would start together. But this lineup is essentially a PG and 4 wing players, which is going to be a very different look and feel on the court.

Not going to lie, it would have been nice to have kept at least one of Lockett, Porter, or Newman. But it is what it is.

We gotta admit, alot of departures under DP. How does this affect our APR or whatever its called.

For those concerned about our APR, I was actually just briefed on this for my university the other night, and we should be ok as long as those students left while academically eligible. APR works on a 2 point system, 1 point for academic eligibility, 1 for retention, so even if a player leaves, as long as they left while academically eligible, we still get a point.

Now some of the things that are a little unclear to me is how the cases of Holloway, a graduating student who was excused from the team midseason, or Relvao, leaving the country with future schooling unknown, are handled. Overall though, especially if these transfers are leaving for 4 year universities, which most did (Temara to a JUCO and Relvao are the only ones I can think of who haven't), get their degrees/weren't in academic trouble when they left, and there's not another mass exodus from the program, we should be alright.

Just saw this from GMU Athletics in an email " Fans are strongly encouraged to be in their seats by 6:50 p.m. to enjoy the debut of our enhanced pregame experience in EagleBank Arena. "

Does anyone know what this is in reference to?

Probably showing an introduction video on the big screen with the lights off or something of that nature. Something other than a wind up machine and zombie nation playing
