Moore, Gray, Thompson, JJ, Marko.

Are you benching Holloway for the first game? I assume his punishment is over and he'll be starting along with Moore and Jenkins, but I'm kind of stumped on the other two after watching the exhibition the other night.

Copes might be better coming off the bench again, but he did still commit two quick fouls Saturday. I did like the discipline Marko seemed to bring in the starting lineup. It's like having a player-coach on the floor, which can bring some stability with so many new faces this season.

Against a small D-III team, the "5's" had 8 personal fouls in 40 minutes:

Thompson - 4 in 14 minutes;
Copes - 2 in 14 minutes; and
Porter - 2 in 12 minutes.

I like Marko as a starter at the "3", provided he can defend effectively at that position.

If Cornell and Princeton both like to spread the floor and jack up a lot of threes, I could see us maybe going smaller for both games. That could mean starting Moore, Holloway, Gray, Marko and Jenkins. God knows one of our strengths has not been defending the 3, so that should be our main focus this weekend.

[Edited for obvious omission. Thanks, Pablos.]

If Holloway missed class based on past (Copes) offenders, Im assuming its more than one game. If Copes got 3 games and Holloway 1 ....then that aint right.

Did you forget about Jalen Jenkins?

Dude, come on. You have no idea what the various offenses were and how the punishments were determined. Plus, Copes has a history of messing up. As far as we know, this is Holloway's first offense.

Pablos, to clarify, I would definitely start Jenkins. Maybe even put him at the 4 and Marko at the 5 or vice versa. I honestly haven't looked at the rosters for Cornell or Princeton, so maybe I'm overthinking the going-small thing.

Im not saying it should be more games but based off the past and on rumors, it might be more. Nobody really knows. They dont communicate with fans.

Given that he was dressed and warmed up with the team for the exhibition game, I seriously doubt he's been suspended for any regular season games.

Back to bball. This might be a stretch, but IF "The Future" has arrived, does he get the start over PH?

No. I think he would start at small forward with Jenkins and Copes at the 4 and 5 respectively, which would be my preferred starting five: Moore, Holloway, Gray, Jenkins, Copes (provided Holloway and Gray can stay focused on defense).

But I think we might see this line-up: Moore, Holloway, Marko, Jenkins, Copes with Marko hopefully guarding the paint on defense and playing small forward on offense and Jenkins vice versa.

Clearly, neither head coach is popular with his respective school's fan base. From the Cornell message board:

Well, time to put up or shut up for both the team and BC. Personnel wise, I'm optimistic about the team this year. I think Shonn solves alot of the balance issues the team had last year between production from the G and F positions. I'm less optimistic about BC's system in general, but am willing to see what he can do with arguably (and perhaps sadly) the most talented roster he's had during his tenure. GMU is kenpom's #138 team going into the year, and would be the type of W that would portend a much bigger year than most of the prognosticators are. Conversely, Loyola MD is kenpom's #284, and an L would seem to indicate more of the same from this staff. I will be in attendance at the Loyola game and am cautiously optimistic for W.

I clicked on the Mason logo on the A-10 site and if I remember correctly, it showed a 4 month subscription for GMU streamed stuff at 24.95. I clicked a little further along in the process and it appears that price has been raised to 29.95. Still not a bad deal - I figure I'd tune into 8 or 9 game through this service.

I am a little confused by the A-10 option. If I signed up for the 4 months/$40 A-10 option instead, will I be able to see the same home games? Away games as well? It'd be a great deal if so. That doesn't appear to be the case to me though.

I imagine I'll purchase the GMU 4 month deal and get a 24 hour or 1 game pass if I want to watch away games that aren't on TV.

Looking at the all A-10 package it looks like pretty much all A-10 home games would be part of the $40. The language says "Your 4-Month A-10 Digital Network subscription gives you access to live all video streamed on the A-10 site."

So I am assuming that if it's on the A-10 TV schedule, you should be able to see them as part of the all A-10 packge, which should mean all of GMU's away conference games and all of GMU's home games (at least GMU vs. Cornell looks like it's on the schedule).

If you just buy the Mason package, 5 of the A-10 schools appear to offer free streaming (wouldn't that be nice GMU?): St. Louis, Dayton, Fordham, Duquesne and St. Bonnie, so presumably you could just jump on their live stream.

Here is the difference between a message board born in the CAA and now living in the A10, compared to one in the Ivy- this poster used the term "portend"

Haha I was thinking the same thing. From portend to the correct usage of "conversely", I was moved by his writing; it was almost poetic. That said, I believe our bukaki on the Big Red will be even more moving to my soul.

Mason - 67
Wordsmiths - 59

Thanks. I see this morning that the A-10 put out a composite schedule. It confirms that all A-10 games not picked up by TV will be offered on A-10 TV. If I bought the GMU package, it looks like the only A-10 school I'd have to purchase separately is Davidson. (given the free streams available from the schools you mentioned) It looks like the game at St. Louis may only be available through Fox Sports MW. Overall though, it looks like it'll be no problem to catch every game.

Since GMU+Davidson will likely cost about $37, I may as well spring for the A-10 package. I usually don't watch many conference games not involving GMU, but it'd be nice to have that option.

Sagarin has Mason by 14. Of course, it's early and takes a while for the computer to get more stabilized.

Yeah, I'm thinking it will be closer due to Cornell getting their injured guys back. I think GMU should only be favored by a few. Hope the team is ready to go - I'm worried Cornell may steal one. I'm travelling from NYS for each game this weekend and if GMU doesn't at least get one win I may drive off a bridge on the way home. At least Copes hasn't been suspended yet.

Cornell's key returning players who missed all of last season are 1st Team All-Ivy League forward Shonn Miller (offseason shoulder surgery) and PG Galal Cancer (who evidently didn't play for personal reasons). The key departure is last season's leading scorer Nolan Cressler who transferred to Vanderbilt.
