I am a white male who works in government, too, but I have never felt pressured one way or another to hire or fire anyone based on demographics. I see diversity as a strength and look for qualified people of all kinds to join my team. I just use common sense and don't say racist or sexist sh!t. I also don't let it slide on the rare occasion someone else does. I'm backed by my employer's Standards of Conduct document. Here is an excerpt:

Personal Behavior and Conduct

Employees are expected to:
Exercise courtesy, respect and tact when dealing with fellow employees and the public regardless of age, race, color, religion, sex, national origin, marital status, disability or sexual orientation or any other factor unrelated to the impartial conduct of business.

Employees are prohibited from:
Harassing fellow employees, vendors, or members of the public on the basis of race, color, religion, sex, [sexual orientation], national origin, age, marital status, disability, or any other characteristic now or hereafter protected by federal, state or county law. This prohibition includes, but is not limited to, sexual harassment;
Engaging in rude or unprofessional behavior or disorderly conduct even if the behavior is not expressly forbidden by regulation or law;
Using racial, sexist or ethnic slurs or other language that disparages any person on the basis of age, race, color, religion, sex, national origin, marital status, disability or sexual orientation;

Like I said, this is all common sense and rather easy to follow. I'm not sure why it seems difficult for others sometimes.

Full disclosure: I am a white male working in government. And there most certainly is "PC Police" (although they are not called that) who tell white men what to do. It is usually called "diversity training" and once you attend these mandatory sessions you realize real quick what you can and cannot say or do. Before I hire for an open position, I have to make sure that I have the required number of minorities (including women) in my department. If my department is not considered "diverse" enough, then no matter what, I know I will hire a minority. Because I have a home and family to provide for, I do what I am told. It is amazing how much time and money the government spends on "diversity".

These protesters are bullies, pure and simple. Look at the protesters at Dartmouth who marched through the library where students were studying shouting "dirty white b***h!" and "F**k you, you dirty white piece of s**t!" . Of course, these kind of protests won't be on ABC, CBS or NBC. It would disrupt the liberal narrative.

You work in government, that's just the nature of the career you chose where optics is incredibly important (academia being another -- notice how much we are micromanaging student/administrator behavior in this forum).

Bullying can happen, and over reaction to things can happen (there was a lot of overreaction on my campus earlier this semester because an anonymous, unsubstantiated threat made to our campus and the police and administration did not communicate anything to the students).

These are also young adults who in some cases are making mistakes (like all of us did in college), but if you think the Mizzou students overreacted, just look at what happened after the president stepped down: that's the climate they have been living in. I will also say this one more time, the Mizzou president was unpopular for a variety of reasons unrelated to the racial issue, and it had to do with his initial appointment and what his mandate was in managing the University of Missouri system (he was hired to be a hatchet man).

How many minutes do you think Holloway gets when he comes back? I don't think we are going to be a 3 point shooting team this year, I am surprised we took as many as we did to be honest. Free throws is what killed us, I hope some of these players went to the RAC afterwards and shot 200 free throws.

You're right, it is common sense. However, as the recent events at Missouri, Dartmouth and other college campuses have proven, common sense is pretty much a rarity at colleges and government nowadays. For example, the poop swasitka , has anyone even considered the possibility that it was staged by the activists themselves? It wouldn' t be the first time.

Also, enforcement of employee handbooks can vary widely from supervisor to supervisor. My immediate supervisor is a rabid Democrat. At staff meetings, she regularly goes off topic about "institutional racism". Basically, in her eyes, the fact that I am a white male makes me a racist.

It's questionable if it even existed. Beyond not passing the smell test (no pun intended), the photo distributed turned out to have been a picture from the internet and not actually taken at the Mizzou campus.

In the post game, Coach Paulsen said that he didn't think that anybody shoots as may free throws as they do in practice (probably somewhat of an overstatement, but making the point that a lack of practicing them is not an issue).

I wonder if there is such a thing as over-practicing. Maybe it becomes too mental or something when they get to the line and start thinking about every single component of shooting. God knows that happens to me when I try to to break down my golf swing on the range and then start shanking balls all over the course.

We've had some horrendous FT shooting nights over the years, but I honestly can't remember one as bad as the other night.

Trent Wurtz.

Remember that slump he'd go through where the whole arena would go deathly quiet because everyone was just holding their breath hoping he'd finally make one. I recall it lasted 3 games or so.

I do remember that. It was so painful to watch. That FT line can be a lonely place when you are going through the yips. Reminds me of this clip from Tin Cup when Kevin Costner had the shanks, because his "brain was getting in the way."

Amazingly, Rhode Island shot worse then us in their opener - 13 of 31, yet still won by 20+

I love that we are debating how awful it was that the president took maybe five minutes to discuss an issue of potential racism.
I have a problem with the guy that posts crap like this online:

"Minorities, college grads, dems & youth like us immigrants. Whites, less educated, reps & older folks, not so much..."

then proceeding to lecture us about racism. He should have been fired after that Twitter post.

If he wants to talk about Mason basketball, I would love to hear it. Other than that, I don't care to hear a word the man has to say. Mason basketball has been one of the few escapes from everyday life I have had in recent years. So, yes, when he steals 5 minutes of my life to talk about a topic I feel he has no credibility on, yes, I have a problem with that.

You sure are talking about it a lot, for going on 4 days now, on a basketball message board, for someone who doesn't want to talk about it...

I agree 100%. The only reason I even comment on his crap is that if we don't make our displeasure known, it will increase. Soon the basketball games will become just another opportunity for the liberals to shove their bigoted viewpoints down our throats. I would be very happy just to discuss basketball, no matter how bad the team is doing.

And that's fine and fair (I'd really need to sees the full thing in context to get a better idea but it doesn't sound very good).

But that above tweet has hardly come up in the argument. Mostly it's been about how apes with nooses around their necks aren't racist.

Liberals shoving bigoted viewpoints? Again, what specifically did Cabrera say that you disagree with?

Have you not read his posts on Twitter? He subscribes to the liberal dogma that we have a racist, sexist, and homophobic society and that any and all claims to the contrary are racist/sexist/etc. If someone finds the "N" word written on a desk somewhere, then it is automatically assumed that the KKK is lurking deep within the heart of every white person. Of course, the fact that it could be faked is never considered. And let's not forget this allows the activists more and more money for diversity positions on university staff. It ends up a self perpetuating cycle. A new incident, why then, we need more money, more staff to conduct "diversity workshops" . And has the staff gets larger, the administrators will quickly point out how large their staff is, so they deserve larger and larger salaries because they have to manage such a large staff.
Where is his tweet about the black lives matter students indimidating white students at Dartmouth? Where is he about the fact that black on white crime is 8:1 to white on black crime?

Maybe I should have been more specific. What did he say *Friday*? I understand the radio commentators talking points, but what did he say on Friday that started this discussion to begin with?
