Jokes aside though, how much is money actually going to fix recruiting, I feel like it can only go so far. A coach this far into his tenure at program at this level shouldn't really need this extra push. Maybe it means spending more salary on assistants who can recruit? I'd be for that

You know, I feel like recruiting has been trending up the past couple years. I think we'd all agree that XJ looks like he belongs, and Oduro (to my eyes, anyhow) looks like a guy who will be at least serviceable his whole career.

To my mind, our last two recruiting classes have been our best three under Paulsen.

They obviously have to look at what other schools in the A10 do when it comes to recruiting visits to make them feel welcome. Obviously graphics was a nice touch they added, but I suspect it’ll have to be other things that make it “cool” that are obviously legal.

Agreed, but then again this thread is 41 pages. Brad still has a ton of confidence in DP the coach, understanding that we have to land the guys we’re targeting though and not lose out to teams within our conference.

Just because alot of people accepted it wouldn't happen this year doesn't mean it shouldn't be discussed. There have been a lot of valid points brought up on both sides of the argument over 42 pages here. Now we should just blindly trust that since there will be some form of increase in recruiting money (how much? Are we flying guys private to come for visits? Or getting them extra Sangam from the JC while they are here?) that we should trust in everything DP is serving up (which recruiting aside there is alot to be said about his abilities in game and his overall system)?

I'm at the point where its win or get out. That can go for both the coach and the athletic department. We are at the point where we have to see results, and we shouldn't be quiet about it if we aren't buying the direction the program is going in. That kind of attitude is what breeds an empty Pat Dome.

Recruiting has improved a lot over the years, but the problem is, are those guys going to progress to keep up or exceed what everyone else’s recruiting has done (Which everyone recruits pretty damn well in the A10).

You can bury this thread until next year, he’s not getting fired. I’m the source, there will be extra resources used to recruit.

RIP: This thread
I hope those resources inlcude a budget for a bouncy house with naked big titty chicks. Otherwise don't know how much of a diffference it will make.

so we throw money at a dude who time and time again shows he can't adapt in game, can't coach an offense that fits his players strength and makes boneheaded substitutions and lineups literally every game and Brad thinks that will fix it? this university might be worse off than I originally thought

If spending more didn’t help recruiting, there would be no facilities arms race in college athletics. That stuff is all about catching the eye of an 18-year-old male.

Our recruiting has improved with the facility improvements, but there is more that can be done. Extra money might allow one of the coaches to take additional trips to see a priority recruit who lives out of the area, for example.

These are all things that we needed to have in place before we jumped to the A-10, but better late than never.

I don’t have all the answers to your questions and some things I can’t share. People are entitled to their opinions here, that wasn’t my point. We have obviously been vocal ourselves, but Mason simply doesn't have the means allocated to make a change this year and they still have a faith in DP. Of course, continue to talk about it etc but DP is here next year.

The Athletic department, and frankly many coaches and A10 brass, don’t agree with you.

Clearly there are issues, but the opinion is that this staff can right the ship. Brad took on a lot of projects when he got here, he wants it to lead to better recruits.

Eh, I dunno about that. We have lost recruits that came in for visits to Elon and others lower tier schools. How does increasing the recruiting budget keep those whiffs we had in the past, for example? I hope we do crank up recruiting in any way......One thing I can think of is more money to pay for more coaches to be present at visits and/or tourneys. For example, one guy landed Hartwell. Maybe sending DP and Simpkins has a bigger impact on recruits that we seem to whiff on.

Why in Year 5 are we talking about this vs year 2 or 3 when it was obvious to most? To me it was obvious in first year but that's another story.

The University has bi-weekly parties at the president's house in Clifton. They spend almost $50k per party on this and you are telling me they can't scrounge the pennies to get the largest public school in Virginia a coach that is worth a damn for their flag ship program?

Whoever said they don't have the means is lying. If that is referring to money that is. Maybe 'means' is lack of a President? They have the money.

It’s understood that they need to recruit better. Extra resources = money. For example in 2019 they hired a photographer to take pics of recruits and their visit and created graphics for them and their family. We didn’t do this 2 years ago. We will get more creative and allocate extra time and cash to hopefully land better recruits.

But DP is safe, you can save your emails unless they make you feel better to send. They are definitely being read but probably just wasting everyone’s time.

I appreciate your input, like most people I knew DP wasn’t going anywhere this year.

I am glad it is “understood” that they need to recruit better. Any idea when this revelation set in? I know Paulsen made a comment about it after the conference tournament last year. Not one person on this board can say they have been happy or satisfied with the level that we have recruited under Paulsen, it isn’t something we are now just realizing.

Having said that, I have seen the level of recruiting slightly get better by class but I have not seen it increase enough yet to be competitive at or near the top of the conference when the A-10 isn’t in a down year. I will not talk bad about kids we have now or kids we have coming in because they have committed to continue their education and athletic careers at a school that we love and/or root for.

If they are just coming to the realization now that they need to start recruiting better I would say they are way behind because the current commits we have don’t hold offer sheets that match our opponents recruits offer sheets IMO.

I worked Bartending for Sodexo during my tenure there and worked at an open bar with buffet food at the presidents house twice a month under both Merton and Cabrera. We had the catering sheet with pricing. I can tell you Paul hewitts wife drank strictly red wine and I never saw Hewitt drink alcohol once. No proof really other than I know it still went on throughout Cabrera’s entire tenure.

You know, the Titanic had alot of confidence in its navigational personell as well. That didn't work out too well. Quite frankly BE's confidence means shit to me.

No one is realistically expecting him to be fired this year just hoping. And at least if he bombs next year too, some can say "People have been calling for his head for the last two years". If he turns it around, he will be vindicated and everyone can pull up my old posts and rightfully say, "man, what an idiot". But right now he deserves the criticism he is getting whether you like it or not.

I love Mason way more than I like being right.

Didn’t we ultimately not offer that kid that went to Elon?

Not sure. But he came on an offical visit. Is there not a subsequent offer if you bring a kid in, put him in your uniform, take pics of him in said uniform?

That kid aside, there were others.

So you’re telling me DP hasn’t signed every kid he has offered? I call fake news.
