You’re talking like 166k is nothing to the Athletics program.. You’re also not considering that you are probably buying out the assistant coaches contracts as well. Additionally, i think most agree that if we were to get rid of Paulsen, we need to bring in a coach that can take us from an average/below average A10 program, to a top A10 program, which means they will probably need to pay them more than Paulsen, give them a bigger assistant salary pool, higher recruiting budget, etc.

All of that and a lot more has to be considered first, and like I said, I don’t see it happening this year.

I tend to agree with you. But Mason was spending 250k more per season for Hewitt. So in theory 166k is not that much.

I hope Mason is thinking about the revenue loss DP is causing instead of what it'll cost to Fire him after this season. Someone said $166k to can his a**. Avg ticket price of $20 and 8,000 empty seats per game. That's a potential gain of $160k per game if they can fill the damn arena. Concentrate on that instead stupid Mason!

Hiring a college basketball coach at our level is tough. What are the chances we get it right this time? Any calculation of revenue based on increased attendence needs to assume a low probability of success.

It'll be interesting tracking Ashley Howard, Jamion Christian, and Billy Lange. Lange is the most interesting, because Martelli was viewed as a good coach, had been at St. Joes forever, but had three injury-laden seasons that cost him his job.

I hate to say it but vcu has done it like 5 times over. Let's poach from that coaching tree. It's on the school also, I'd say Mason is only like 45% devoted to it's basketball program. Fordham spends more than us......

From my one high level donor source, surprisingly money is not as big of an issue as we think.

They have enough to can DP if they wanted this year. Actually more than enough. Which really surprised me.

Apparently the issue is that DP has a lot of support from the people that matter, including the McKays. Bottom line is he 100% will be back next year unfortunately.

They just do not see enough complaints about DP to warrant a change this year. A “Fire Dave Paulsen” cheer at homecoming could prove a bit embarrassing to Brad and others and could at least let them know SOMEONE isn’t happy with what’s going on.

The outrage about Paulsen is very much limited to these boards.

I don’t know how assistant salary’s work either. Fischer, and Kelly moved on. Does Simpkins, and Hutchins make the same as Fischer and Kelly now.

Everyone is just speculating. I personally think Edwards will keep DP, because if he fires DP that shows he made a mistake in hiring him. I think BE wants to see his experiment through.

He's a nice guy and people like him personally is how I see that.

But we've had such a horrible home court all 5 years he's been here, like even in our best season wins-wise we had 7 home losses (including 4 in conference). Last year, we go 11-7 in conference and we lose 6 home games.

Like, no one is afraid of coming into EBA, especially if you are a top 5 team. Even St. Joes is putting up bigger fights at home than we are, even Fordham is (they took the Bonnies to OT).

I mean, at the very least can't we have a coach that gets their players to play hard at home?

If next year looks like the previous two, those big donors better put the squeeze on.

We would be giving up millions of dollars a year that help fund the athletic department by going back to the CAA, and in order to dance in the CAA, you have to win the league. Moving down isn’t an option, and it’s a stupid suggestion.
Does anyone know who the finalists are for GMU's President?

  • A pretty close hold, as usual for a presidential search. I think limited to the search committee, BOV, and upper administration.

And well it should be. Unfortunately the apathy is not.

If people want Paulsen gone why don't you make stuff up about him saying mean stuff to you at Brion's or some shit. Or have Grayer say he called him a pussy or something. PC babies would be all over his a**.

I make up stuff about Larranaga all the time and you don't see him round these parts, do you?

Bottom line is "we're not that type of school."

As long as no one's getting arrested, everyone is passing and we are not 0 and 22-----a coach like Paulsen will be able to stick around longer here than some other schools.

Unfortunately the Patriot Club is More of a social club than it is a real effort to make Mason Hoops a better product.

If anyone has ever interacted with fellow club members outside of a Mason hoops game, it is astonishing how clueless many of them are. I was speaking to a guy at one event and he kept calling DP “Matt Paulsen” and was going in about how much he’s done for the program.

If Brad thinks he can go to an SEC School and severely underperform like he is here and stay under the radar of criticism and pressure, he is in for a world of hurt.

Dont think The Virus got as much supplemental pay as Lil Dave.
I don’t think you owe a coach supplemental pay if you are buying them out.

I tend to agree that DP will be back. But I don’t think it’s because of the money. I think BE just wants another year to show his pick was the right hire

Why DP will be back next year -

(1) This is the only year the wheels completely fell off.

(2) Injuries to our only two seniors

(3) Uncertainty of Pres and AD

(4) $

But next year is the pivotal year. Dance or gone.

If I had a dollar for every time I heard that in my 20's and 30's.

Hey Mason, maybe you are that type of school, you just don't know it yet.

The president is rocking a Cayman Islands champs tshirt today proudly. DP plays out his contract here.
