Did we expect O'Connor to be playing point? I just liked his intensity. The refs were calling all kinds of unnecessary fouls. I hope he keeps playing with that something to prove attitude.

GIVING DAY 2023
Many times I liked what I saw. 3pt. shooting will definitely be better with this crew.

Gio and Begg were the most pleasant surprises. This combo will be important and dangerous for opponents. The pair misconnected more than not, but growth in chemistry will come. When it does, watch out.

O'Connell is fun to watch. Nice all-around game, high B-ball IQ.

In many ways, the depth seems interchangeable with little to no drop-off in play.

I liked the few moments that we played zone—they walled off the St. Mary"s quite well. We'll see how it goes against stronger competition.

I would have liked to have seen KD, but so did we all.
Who is O’Connell? ;):)

I continue to be impressed by Gio, I think he will be a real difference maker for this team and can see him pushing towards starting at some point this season.

I don’t see why he shouldn’t be the Day 1 starter. All we heard all offseason was how good Gio is, and then he outperformed Haynes today.

I don't think fans should read too much into this one way or another. It's an exhibition The coach is experimenting lineups.

Haynes was rusty, he's been inactive for almost 2 years.

He will start and his game will come around as the season progresses.

I’m sure Haynes will be great, and I hope I’m very wrong.

But I can’t help but think there’s a reason Skinn decided to keep Haynes sidelined after the NCAA reversed its ruling on transfers.

I just think we’re all tantalized by his bulky frame and his old highlight reel.

I may be wrong but Haynes made the decision to stay back last year and keep his eligibility for this year.

More good players than minutes available. A great problem to have, one we haven’t experienced around these parts in a long time.

Hopefully we put a hurting on the crappier opponents so Begg, Cokley and Stas can get some run.
My litmus test how Mason matches up and performs against vcu. Mason should have won that game.

They could not finish over the top of the longer rams inside and hit 3 pointers..

This year, vcu is more suspect defensively inside than last year while Mason is taller and bigger around the rim.

While vcu has the edge on the perimeter, Mason now has an experienced alpha dog in KD johnson with tons of big time bball experienced on the national stage...
that experience should translates down the stretch in important games like vcu in Richmond.

I look forward to the game at Marquette. Since Mason is going against the godfather of Havoc, it will tell us alot about Mason chances against vcu on the road.

Watching replay of exhibition - Begg immediately stands out. Very excited to see him more.

Didn’t see it mentioned here, but Bill said KD and Quigley were missing the game due to a violation of team rules. Their misbehavior is Begg’s gain.

Also, O'Connor committed a couple of fouls early in the first half, and while Beggs was at the scorer's table waiting to replace him, he was called for his 3rd. Gave Beggs more time on the floor at pg for the game (23 minutes, I think) than any other Mason player.

I don't know how good KD and Quigley are at the position, but Begg looks too good to be essentially the 4th option there--will only be getting mop up time. While Begg may not be quite as fast and strong to the basket as Okalojie, he certainly is quick and has a good shot from outside.
