GIVING DAY 2023
Sorry to hear Mike quinn is leaving. Best of luck at Dartmouth coach!

Good opportunity for Mike to move up the coaching ladder and good for us that we get to keep Dane for another season.

Seems like a win-win.

Maybe Bryson slides over to take the DOBO spot? It would make sense because he's already so familiar with DP.

As Jim indicates, it would make sense for Bryson to move to DOBO as he may be close to finishing his master's degree at Mason.

It's VERY likely Paulsen will try to do this, but it's not as easy as some might think. DP tried to put Bryson onto his staff at Bucknell as the #3 assistant - indeed he had an office and it was thought to be a done deal. However, Bryson is a Canadian and they couldn't get the necessary paperwork for him to take the job. Bucknell hired a well-know law firm that specializes in that area and yet still couldn't get it to happen. Finally ran out of time and hired Ryan Ayers, the brother of Bison star Cam Ayers and son of Randy Ayers.

There is likely a better chance of it happening this time since there is a lot more time and a lot less time pressure. It is not a recruiting position so that part won't be a driver, and as a graduate assistant there is no reason Bryson can't do the same work as the DOBO while they wait. Also with GMU so close to D.C., perhaps someone there has some government/political connections to get him the paperwork. I hope so for his sake, since he is a good guy.

I'm a little surprised by the timing of this...I love Dave as much as anybody, but this seems a bit early for an extension, no?

Considering the magnitude of the rebuilding job he inherited, it only makes sense for Mason to keep adding a year onto the back end of DP's contract to keep it at 5 years.

That sends a signal to recruits and their parents that he has the full support of our administration while he and the staff get the ship moving in the right direction again.

Better to be proactive and reward a job well done than d!ck around and lose another excellent coach.

I fully expected this after this season, but "deserved" his first season was a losing season. shocked by the timing.

Looking at last season as a "losing" season simply because of the W-L record is pretty silly considering the mess DP inherited.

It was a massive win in all the ways we needed it to be: re-establishing a culture of accountability on and off the court, getting the players to buy in to the "new" way of doing things, and generally sending the message to recruits/coaches/fans that things are headed in the right direction.

The on-court success will come. But it was absolutely the right and smart thing for the admin to recognize everything DP and his staff accomplished beyond wins and losses.

Paulsen also held the players accountable on the academic side. That speaks volumes.
