So, you seem to be saying that we dominate the bad teams (because we have a winning record the last two years, so if we're being dominated by the teams above 500, then we must by the virtue of simple arithmetic be doing very well against the rest) and lose to the good teams.

Do you know what that makes us? A middle-of-the-road program.

Well, that's what we are right now. We're a middle of the road program.

Considering where we were (a crappy program that didn't look like it belonged in its league), that's improvement.

As I said before, if we top out at a middle-of-the-road program, we can have a discussion about whether that is good enough, given all the factors at play.

Until we know where we have topped out, though, it feels premature, and a little bit silly to be whining.

6-26 vs good teams puts us as one of the shitty teams that we get lucky and defeat. Paulsen cannot beat good teams. A10 is going to be much better next year than they were this year... Would love to bet you some money we finish with less than 11 wins in A10 if you would like to?

He’s also ignoring the fact that while Richmond lost a ton of games, they swept both Davidson and vcu last year and damn near knocked off the Bonnie’s in the quarterfinals of the tournament. The year previous to that, they were a top 4 team and made the NIT quarterfinals. So going 2-2 with them isn’t great, but a lot of good programs don’t have two year winning records against Richmond.

GW, we are 4-1 against them, so not sure why he has a problem losing to Yuta Watanabe in D.C. last year. He was a special player.

Note: last year means 2017-2018 season.

I feel like maybe you don't understand how luck works. If it happens over and over and over again it's not luck.

the good teams didn't get lucky to beat us over and over again, they were better than us.

similarly, we didn't get lucky to beat the bad things over and over and over again, we were better than them.

And there's just no chance in the world I'm putting money on what happens next year. I had no idea Otis was going to regress the way he did and I had no idea Miller was going to be as good as he was.

Nothing would surprise me next year.. I can see us winning 15 games. I can see us losing 15 games.

Mar’s regression was even more of a surprise because it was near complete in its ineffectuality. Grayer becoming a piss poor defender as well (we will buy the excuse his foot was still bothering him) coupled with Otis having a subpar senior season and what should have been a great season turned into a mediocre one.

At least we discovered Miller could play and Hartwell should be a good one.

I know you will all attack me for this post, but here it goes any way. It seems like the team was burnt out before the season even started. Kier made a comment on the ByGeorge podcast about the amount of work they are putting in the off season. It sounded great when I heard the interview, but perhaps they were over worked.

No depth last year. So everyone tallied tons of minutes. Then a rigorous off-season. Then Spain. DP kept talking about strong practices…. So maybe the team needed some rest.

I've actually thought the same thing. The team seamed gassed the last third of the season. On top of juggling between games, travel, practice and school, it seems like they do a ton of community service stuff in between.

This is one area that I do agree with. We've seen our players gassed down the stretch and lose games that I think could have been won. Pacing players is something I will look at hard for next season

Oh you poor little thing....bless your heart!

Why it's almost like people are stalking you on facebook and posting your home address here. But fortunately nobody would be as big a creeper and jackhole to do something like that for realzies right???

Shouldn't there be a coma after 'But'? I don't think realzies is a real word.

I can maybe buy that, but I think whoever’s theory about team chemistry and the inclusion of Reuter so early is probably closer to the truth (mainly because we seemed to be playing our best basketball after the holiday tournament, starting with the Kansas State game). I can see getting worn down as the season went.

It could explain Grayer’s aggravation of his foot, though, which really hurt us on both sides of the ball (his defense was bad, and not being able to have his shooting on the floor).

November records

‘18-‘19: 3-6
‘17-‘18: 4-3
‘16-‘17: 5-3
‘15-‘16: 3-4

Yeah we haven’t started great. Ironically 2 of our best ooc wins probably came in Dave’s first year and we were terrible.

Winter break records, generally went with the timeframe of 20 December to 20 January

‘18-‘19: 6-2
‘17-‘18: 5-5
‘16-‘17: 4-3
‘15-‘16: 3-5

Not down to a science because I’m too lazy to look up MLK day, but generally we don’t seem to do any better when they’re only playing ball and no class. Trending up tho?

Feb-March, including tournament games (A10/CBI)

‘18-‘19: 5-7
‘17-‘18: 7-4
‘16-‘17: 6-7
‘15-‘16: 4-8

Not great. But not complete disaster. Our strong finish in 17-18 really should make us scratch our heads about the chemistry changing going into this year.

Next year might be helpful to get a better sense of trends since we were really bad year 1.

Care to take a little action on that?

Last year we finished #5 and ended the season on a horrible note. 8th and 5th place were separated by two games in the W-L column, if I recall correctly we had to win on a buzzer beater at home against Fordham and we struggled against UMASS without Pipkins. If URI played us at the end of last year, they would have beaten us. Kier is good but I don't see enough from the starting cast to get it done. Greene is way too inconsistent, Mar is coming off a bad injury, Boyd is not a good shooter. Miller and Calixte are both fine but very young. Go to the bench: I like hartwell but he plays very small, bigger guards just shoot over him. AJ can't get PT because every time he commits a foul. JDS is a good shooter but again is very small which makes him a defensive liability. Big Daddy is just a freshman, not sure how he adapts yet to USA ball. Oduro I don't know much about him. Do I trust 6ft 8 185lbs soaking wet against a 6.10 235lb Center? Nope.

If Reuter is truly finished, well we lose his size and you can say goodbye to all of those backdoor passes he hit miller and kier on because Calixte can't make that pass on his best day.

Xavier Johnson looks like a promising guard.

What has happened this spring that has convinced us that we will be a better team next year? It was supposed to be a down year last year and I don't think we have gotten drastically better.

At least, vcu, Dayton, Davison, Bonnies, Dukes, URI will finish higher than us.

I agree with the school needing to put more funding into the basketball program but I have not convinced that drive and kicking with guards and an undersized center is going to be successful.

I am willing to listen to a wager.
