She is kinda right. We seem to not be playing the pack line this year which is a big mistake. We don't have the talent to play straight man. We made teams beat us with lower % shots in DP's last three years and its worked to a degree. Not sure why he thinks this year is different. His staple has always been rebounding and in order to excel at that, you can't gamble thus the pack line. Problem with the zone is you can give up alot of rebounds. Problem with our man is we give up layups. But when playing pack line if you run into a team that jacks and makes 3's (see uva vs umbc) then you can get toasted. Not sure what the answer is but the guy gettting paid the big bucks better figure it out.

No offense to the author, but “it makes players tired” may be the worst argument I’ve ever heard for abandoning man-to-man defense in favor of zone. Seriously, that’s a dumb take.

We are a man-to-man defensive team. We just need to stay more compact and close off the lane instead of pressuring the ball and trying for steals. Make teams shoot contested jump shots and live with the outcome instead of getting overextended and giving up layups.

I agree. He is playing a different position and struggling. If the ship keeps going down with this new rotation I think Paulsen should go back to last seasons rotation to right the ship.

I think Paulsen needs to go back to last year's rotation after this game. Reuter is too slow defensively. Georgia Southern was 31 - 48/64.5% from 2.

At this point why not. Although when Otis and goanar are missing in action, you can’t pretend it’s last year.

Reuter's presense reminds of how vcu inserted Kris Lane into the lineup last year alongside tillman.

Defensively, Kris was too slow to cover small.forwards, missed defensive assignments and made other players try to cover his mistakes. They ended up leaving their own men for wide open 3's or uncontested layups just to cover his mistakes.

Mar does not what know what to do with himself right now. He isn't sure what to do with Reuter occupyING the same space in the lane.

If we go back to last year's lineup, everyone should able to react rather than think.

good point duncan, but I think Mar should be a 3 and come off the bench for Grayer. Too thin to guard 4's. AJ and Claixte hold down the 5 while Reuter and AJ rotate the 4. AJ should be in all the time basically b/c he has proven himself. And he is only rim protector we have.

Did anyone watch Dave’s postgame interview on Facebook? It looks like it has been removed. I was waiting for it to load and now it’s gone.

I tried but it didn’t work, I suspect it may go back up or they were having some difficulties

Annual letter to the fans...

Mason Nation,

On behalf of our basketball program, I would like to thank you for the support you have shown our team this season. We hope you know how much you are appreciated and how important you are to our success. The support and enthusiasm from our fans inspires our team to play their very best. Because of you, we were able to set a new school record of reaching 11 wins in the Atlantic 10. We also celebrated with Justin Kier as he was named the Atlantic 10 Most Improved Player. These milestones can be attributed to the dedication and fierce determination of our student-athletes, coaches and staff as well as the support from our extraordinary fans.

This season, I had the honor and pleasure to coach an incredibly special group of young men. I am proud of how hard they worked each and every day. This tremendous group exemplified the values of our program by representing Mason on and off the court.

I also want to express my gratitude for your support in Brooklyn this past week, and while we are still recovering from a painful loss, we want you to know your wonderful support was both recognized and greatly appreciated. Be proud of your team's success and your role in these triumphs.

Eh, make some moves this off season to show you are really appreciative. Ran into a coworker today in the elevator. I had my Mason jacket on and he asked if I graduated there. Then he said he was a basketball fan and gave up his season tickets 2 years ago. Was one for 14 years before that. Pauslen should make it his first goal to get those fans back, it's important.

Nicely written letter but for me (not like DP or BE care about what we think) I wish he would have addressed that they did not meet expectations and he is committed to making sure we get better. He told us it would be a two year season, told us we were getting a top 5 player in the league, and he put high expectations on this season. While Kier and 11 wins are an improvement, we still did NOT meet expectations this season. While it was a nice letter, it sounds to me like losing in the QF's is ok with him and it shouldn't be. The letter would have been perfect if it was his first season as coach instead of his 4th.

I agree. “He” has written letters that talk about getting better and going above where they are at. We’ve gotten those letters midseason, so I’m surprised that he went with this approach or whoever wrote it. I assure you that they care what we think, but ultimately they know what they want to do and what the best path is

That said I suspect he will be more candid when discussing the season with bigger donors and donors in general in person. He did bring the expectations upon himself, but I’m not so sure it’s going to be addressed in a letter like this without him evaluating everything quite yet. It’d be nice if we got a bit more info after they are done evaluating.

I received it. I think it was just sent to donor's.. could be wrong

Looked like the pat club list, probably those who are basketball season ticket holders (which is probably a high percentage of the pat club).
