Ok keep grasping that DP is the answer because it’s easisr to to swallow than starting over.
We had all better hope DP is the answer because another reboot is a horrible idea.

Green and kier cant play together. They are same player. Both slashers that cant shoot. Too much loyalty to kier. You wanna win or be mr. Nice guy?
Otis needs to chill and become a true pg.

Green team vs gold team. Never kier and greene, unless it's for foul shooting at the end.
In all seriousness, if this season doesn’t go well, I think Dave has done enough with nothing that he gets another year. If at the end of year 5 there’s consistent regression then I think there’s evaluation to be done.
That said it’s still very unlikely that scenario happens. We’ve seen dave’s Teams start slow before, and they always end up playing good ball and winning as the season moves on. He’s done more with less, but this regression is very concerning.
I just could have sworn (as many people probably would agree with me(, that by year 4 with a loaded team, Mason wouldn’t be losing buy games to weaker opponents. I could only imagine how disappointed everyone is within the program, and that they know they need to work even harder now. There’s a lot of work to be done.
For some reason, Paulsen's man-to-man defense at the start of the season that he apparently wants everyone to run just doesn't work with the roster he's got...this has happened every single season. Last night, our guards were letting their guards into the paint repeatedly and then they overcompensated and gave up wide open 3s on the collapse to stop it. Or we get switched out on screens and get mismatches the other team exploits (Boyd trying to guard Robinson at the end of OT, as an example). I feel like Paulsen needs to scrap his go-to defense with this team and just install what will work.
We just don’t have guys who are capable of playing pressure man-to-man defense without getting blown by for layups. It’s no more complicated than that. We need to get back to packing the paint and forcing teams to beat us with jump shots.
You mean what American did to us last night?
From what I saw, it’s partly because Reuter is too slow to hedge and recover. Watch the sequence towards the end of the 2nd half where boyd hit back-to-back 3’s and American answered with their own 3 attempts. Boyd left his man to come into the paint both times to help Reuter. Then Wilson came into the game, and the guards stopped having to dive down inside. We just don’t have guys who are capable of playing pressure man-to-man defense without getting blown by for layups. A shake up is needed. It pains me to say this because Kier has been my favorite player on this team at times, but right now I’d start Otis, Greene, Boyd, Grayer, and Wilson.
Dave deserves huge props for turning our program around, and I still think he is the right person for this job. But it does concern me that he isn't owning these first two loses. In both post-game press conferences, he said the players haven't played like they've practiced; but isn't it his job to make sure that translates from one to the other?
One constant is Dave's teaching and philosophy has always been playing like a team, but we have seen more one-one-one garbage and dribbling than I can recall even before he got here. In our last two possessions in OT last night, not one player touched the ball other than Otis. It doesn't make it too difficult to game-plan us when the opponent knows we have no plan.
Despite losing two games we should have won, Dave deserves time to figure out rotations and chemistry on such a deep team. My biggest hope, though, is that he throws any pre-conceived notions and biases out the window. That includes: playing Otis off the ball more; taking Grayer out of the doghouse and putting him into the game down the stretch; pairing Reuter with Calixte or Wilson more to make us more formidable down low; giving some of Mar's minutes to prized recruit Douglas-Stanley; admitting we are an average at best man-to-man team and playing more zone.
This is the season we've all been anticipating for the past three years. Now that any at-large bid is all but lost, hopefully Dave and the team can regroup with the goal of righting the ship in time for conference play. Maybe I'm in denial, but I still think this team can be special.
IMHO it’s the coach’s job to prepare the players properly in practice. It’s the players’ responsibility to take what they’ve been taught and apply it in games.
I think DP is as befuddled as the rest of us as to why they aren’t doing that.
Convenient to fit your narrative but doesn’t explain his random as shit lineups that blew up in his face so far
He recruited these players. So it’s not the players’ job to play? Interesting.
Every coach will tell you that they devise the game-plan, they develop the players, and they build the team. However, who was the last NCAA coach to suit up for a game? (Not even Pablo can find that answer!) Coaches coach, the players play the game—it's all by definition, folks. So it’s not the players’ job to play? Interesting.
