IMHO it’s the coach’s job to prepare the players properly in practice. It’s the players’ responsibility to take what they’ve been taught and apply it in games.

Jim, we're actually in agreement with this premise, and I've actually made that same case in the past. For some reason, though, there is a disconnect with a lot of the players between what is happening in practice and in games, so Dave and his staff need to find out what that is.

I equate it to students taking a test. If one or two fail it, that's on them; if a majority of the class fails, the teacher needs to find another way to get through to them. Dave is a smart dude, so I'm sure he'll find a way to make sure we start to play like we practice.

I can’t blame anyone at this point for hitting the panic button. I think Dave has earned some time to figure this out after building us up over the last few years. I’m sure he would be the first to tell you he hasn’t done a good enough job so far this season. The added pressure of expectations this season is largely his doing as well with his two year season and Reuter All A10 comments. It would be interesting to hear if he regrets making those statements or not. The Penn loss hurt because we were led to believe we would be better. Even in our down years it wouldn’t be ok to lose to American - let alone this year.

It’s just going to be a different season than what I thought. We still might do well in the A10 - it’s possible, but if you were thinking at large bids and top 50 rpi like I was hoping, it’s not happening.

I compare it to going on vacation. You save up to take your family on a dream Hawaiin vacation. You get off the plane only to find out you’ve landed in Sacramento. I’m sure there are some nice things, fun things to do in Sacramento. You might have a good time, but your heart was set on Hawaii. Sacramento is not Hawaii.

We thought we were getting Hawaii this year. We might have some good times, win some important games and maybe even figure things out. But we landed in Sacramento. We ain’t going to Hawaii.

I love our guys. I love our staff... but man, these losses frickin hurt.

I just don’t get the folks who think Paulsen is so untouchable to criticism. He’s no Hewitt that’s for sure but he’s definitely not in the top tiers of recruiting or in game coaching either. I like the guy and I hope we turn it around but I’ve seen too much over the last three years of his in game coaching to make him my hero like some of the folks on this message board

All that matters this year is this team demonstrating it can get significantly better by the A-10 tournament.

If the crap continues late into a mediocre A-10 schedule, Paulsen won't be on a hot seat, but it'll start to warm up.

Next year is the measuring stick and anything less than at least in the NIT discussion means we got problems.

We have problems. "Early season" it all you want the fact is we went to Spain, have everyone back plus Reuter and we're getting beat at home by mostly sophomores and juniors (and a freshman in both games) from the Ivy League and Patriot.

It is now almost impossible to even get actual important postseason barring a pretty remarkable regular season winning streak or winning the A-10 Tournament.

I wouldn't hotseat Paulsen but this is in no way defensible.

f**k. Sacramento.

People might not think Paulsen is good enough to be here but here is the deal. Mason couldn't hold onto L because we didn't want to pay his assistants more. We took our final 4 money and didn't put it back into the program. We hired a coach that brought the program to all time lows. Both our AD and President left. We were way behind in the facilities race. We had to pay Blewitt for another year. How high caliber of a coach do you think we could have gotten?

It's great having guys like Jim tearing down the idiots like ByGeorge but it's another thing to act like Paulsen is some sort of God. Sure we aren't battling for last place with Fordham anymore but this isn't where the program should be right now and he should be criticized, not just the players.

I definitely agree. While Penn is good, they had no business losing to American at this stage with all the extra time and work put in. I felt like that game was more shit happens, but American was ridiculous even in a down year as someone said.

Pauslen can’t be hot seated until he has a team that shows consistent regression throughout a season, so far every year his team has improved after a slow start.

Also I definitely agree since I went to Sacramento for work once, f**k Sacramento

Not sure why you have to call the ByGeorge crew idiots. They put so much effort into trying to provide Mason content to the masses. The Post won't even give us the day or time. They deserve at least a little respect.

I get all that but why does he continue to get extensions.

He's the best we can do right now so we have to provide him with all the resources he needs. What recruit wants to play for a coach who can only say be has 1-2 years left on his contact.

I have a gut feeling that Mar is struggling to find his role with Reuter also occupying the lane.

Last year, Mar was the primary threat down low, now Reuter is the man.

What do you think?

Maybe, but I remember Mar sort of setting up either on the perimeter or at the elbow and doing most of his damage there. But yeah, whoever plays the 4 is going to have to recognize how to work the high-low with Reuter when he's in there.

We also need to get Mar, Kier, Greene, and Otis to recognize teams are leaving a pretty nice gap right around the FT line in which to work and stop trying to get all the way to the rim if they're packing the paint. I know those 4 can especially hit that shot (if they're set that is -- ehem Otis shooting off balance shots).

I agree. He is playing a different position and struggling. If the ship keeps going down with this new rotation I think Paulsen should go back to last seasons rotation to right the ship.

Not sure what’s up with Mar. He does seem to be struggling when I know for a fact he can do better. We’ve all seen what he’s capble of doing. Perhaps I should probably have a parent-teacher conference with his Minnesota Mom.

Like last year, I think a lot of this comes down to a total inability of our team to be a three point threat. With the guys we have its remarkable how few threes we make...or even take! Guys have seemed so hesitant to take them. We won't be a great team until we get guys in here that can shoot.

Who was our last good shooter?
