Just a reminder that Paulsen has had the team finish better in A10 standings than the prior season in his first 3 yrs. Please remember that before you think about posting something stupid about him or the staff.

Thank you - love to see logic and sober reasoning here every now and then.

Anyone familiar with DP's history of using redshirts? So far (correct me if I'm wrong) we've seen him use redshirts on A.J. (academic reasons?), Relvao (knee?), and Reuter (transfer).

Since I'm assuming that we haven't had the depth or luxury to redshirt too many players, I'm just wondering what we may expect to see in the future. Does DP believe in taking "project" players to redshirt a year? Might we see some incoming freshmen redshirt next year since we will have improved depth?

Redshirting is forbidden in the Patriot League and the NESCAC, so that was not an option when Paulsen coached at Bucknell and Williams, respectively.

As you noted, since Wilson was a redshirt, I assume that Paulsen is open to the concept if and when appropriate in the future.

Thanks! I was hoping you (the resident DP historian) would answer my question. I had no idea that the Patriot league forbids redshirting. I’ll be interested to see what he does as the team’s depth improves then.

All offseason we will feature different Patriots in our Interview Series. Thursday we sat down with Dave Paulsen in his office and Petey fired away questions for about 40 minutes.

Some takeaways
- He spoke about next years schedule
- Spoke real high of Greene as a shooter
- DP has the roster he wants
- AAU programs recognize the type of guys DP is looking for
- Guys will have to embrace less playing time
- Obviosuly, he has high expectations for the program
- He loves By George ;)

Petey pulled this interview and conducted it. Great job bud!

A few things I took out of the interview:

- Dave said he's already seeing returns from the practice facility in the recruiting game. There's an interesting segment in there where he discusses how hard it was to recruit gym rats and pitch Mason as a player development program when gym time would be limited.

- I asked him if we're going to bring more transfers into Mason and he said "definitely maybe" with a big smile on his face. It sounded like a yes. I then asked about grad transfers and his answer sure sounded like a no. He said his staff might have gone harder after a grad transfer last year if they knew what our frontcourt situation was going to look like, but he also credits Calixte's development over the season with how many minutes he was able to play.

- He is definitely putting together a schedule that will be at-large worthy. He knows this team can compete at the top of the A10.

- He really wants the new locker room funded for film study. Current film study involves folding chairs and a projector.

- Dave is going to foul up 3 with under 5 seconds left in almost every scenario. He said he's seen studies from other coaches that have convinced him it's the better probability play.

And as discussed in the Reuter thread, he's super high on him. He also has a lot of praise for Javon as well.

We're hoping to get some more time with him before the season starts. If you've got more things you'd like to hear from him I'm all ears.

Thanks for doing the interview! It helps fill a verrry loong off season with useful information instead of random speculation from fans taking pot shots at each other. We don't get any mass media coverage and these sorts of efforts help fill that gap.

Keep up the good work!

Excellent interview and well done. Someone needs to get Petey Buckets a limo, a case of Crystal and some professional ladies.

GIVING DAY 2023
I loved the interview with DP, just wished it were longer! Great insider information. I had no idea scheduling games is a two year process. I had no idea concerts made it more difficult to schedule games. I just assumed the basketball team had dibs on the arena. Time for a new stadium!
