Countdown to the End of the Coach Hewitt Era

GIVING DAY 2023
Not sure a lot of 23 year olds are taken in the lottery. You're right about development, but especially with the D-league becoming more of a minor leagues for the NBA, teams draft on potential as much or more than they do on talent.

Good point, but a late-blooming 6-11 athlete/rebounding machine is gonna get a lot of looks. Not like Shevon would be ready to collect Social Security like Evans was.

Re: 2/14 Games

"The only coaches in the top-7 conferences who have been with their programs each of the past 4 years (counting this one) and who have not made the NIT or NCAA in that period are:
• Chris Mooney, Richmond
• Oliver Purnell, Depaul
• Brian Gregory, Georgia Tech
• Paul Hewitt, George Mason
• Tom Pecora, Fordham
• Pat Chambers, Penn State

Penn State seems to be the only team in that group that may make at least the NIT this year. Maybe that will save Chambers for another year. Gregory, Hewitt and possibly Pecora will be fired after this season. Purnell is getting paid $2M+ and probably will keep his job because of that.

By this time next year, Mooney may be on an island of 3 coaches. It is simply inexcusable."

I predict a press conference will be held on Monday to announce Hewitt's resignation. Even a win against Richmond will not change Hewitt's fate. If the school waits until the end of February it looks like they are just bailing to avoid the $85k. So they do it now.
Your prediction is running out of time...

Could be worse. At least he didn't say Marko was back.

I suggest that you calculate Marko's FG% this season since he was switched back to his natural "4" position. If this is too difficult for you, let me know and I'll do it for you.

Okay, I predict Hewitt will be fired on Thursday. And, if not then, I predict after the next game or the next game. The only thing I am sure of is Hewitt will not be the coach of the Patriots in April of this year.

I predict that Hewitt will be the coach for the remainder of the Patriots' season. I am not sure what President Cabrera will do.

I predict it will be on a Tuesday.

You are not going to get me this time Lucy. Signed, Charlie Brown.

From here on out, I am going to assume Mason is going to mess this up as badly as I can reasonably imagine them doing so. So, I am assuming there will be an announcement that they are extending Hewitt for another 5 years (or letting him have his 5th with no extension and getting JMU-ed). If they fire him, well, that will just be gravy for me.

Even some of the smartest basketball people on here were still in the Hewitt camp, or at least in the give him another year camp after last year. (Note: That is not meant as a criticism).

So here is my fear. BE has only seen one year of the Hewitt fiasco. How basketball smart is he? Is one year enough to prove to him that Hewitt is not the coach for Mason? Is he still in the give him a chance camp? Can any doubts combined with the excuses discussed in the excuse thread be enough to sway BE? Combine that with the budget pressure if we have to pay another coach and I have this nagging fear that this may not be our last year Hewitt.

I hope, for once, that Mason surprises me and fires Hewitt ASAP.

There is absolutely no doubt in my mind that after this season Edwards will recommend Hewitt be fired. The man played for Joe Gibbs, so he obviously understands that this is not a well-coached team.

But, the question is what will President Cabrera do?

I hope you are right about BE. Assuming that you are, yes, the question is what will Cabrera do?

I can only hope he was only being a "glass is half full" kind of person with the "they still get us on national TV a couple times a year" comment.

Do we really want our brand on national tv right now?

The vcu game (March 7th) is on national TV. I am calling it right now we will be 20 point underdogs in that game.

I remember when we used to beat vcu. Those were the days... We beat them once in the Hewitt era, and that was on a last second heave.
