https://www.espn.com/mens-college-b...-tournaments-says-basketball-chief-dan-gavitt:

"Gavitt said NCAA officials continue to track developments and make adjustments as necessary. Earlier this week, he told Sports Illustrated that he'd proposed a late-October start -- two weeks earlier than normal -- for college basketball to Division I officials. Gavitt said, however, he pitched that proposal in early June and it has failed to gain support over the past month.

He said the NCAA's plan to host a tournament in March and April will come with a variety of contingencies. He said the NCAA will allow conferences to apply for waivers "into February" if they decide to give their league's automatic qualifier to the top team in their standings instead of hosting a conference tournament.

'We are going to be very flexible,' he said.

Gavitt also said the NET (NCAA evaluation tool) ranking system, which has replaced the RPI as a central metric for the NCAA tournament selection committee, might not carry the same weight if conferences don't play balanced and equitable schedules. He said NCAA officials have contacted Google, which helped develop the NET, about the potential impact of a chaotic season.

'If it does happen, we would have to use different tools and maybe even use more observation,' he said."

https://www.espn.com/mens-college-b...ct-jeremy-sochan-play-germany-due-coronavirus:

"High-major 2021 prospect Jeremy Sochan has elected to play next season in Germany -- as opposed to returning to the United States to attend La Lumiere School in Indiana -- due to the coronavirus pandemic.

Sochan holds scholarship offers from Baylor, Florida State, Michigan State, Virginia, Creighton, Kansas, Arizona, Vanderbilt and Xavier.

'Once the pandemic started, I realized it's going to change the dynamics of a lot of things, but it wasn't until the last few weeks when I started thinking about maybe staying in Europe,' Sochan told ESPN. 'Now, given the COVID-19 situation seems worse in the U.S. than in Europe, I decided with my family that it's better for me to stay here to finish high school and continue my basketball development.'

Sochan, a Poland native who has been with his family in the United Kingdom since the lockdown began, will play for OrangeAcademy in Ulm, Germany. OrangeAcademy plays in the second division in Germany and is a development team for the club team Ratiopharm Ulm."

Like the Ivy League, looks like National Junior College Athletic Association will not have fall sports. NJCAA Presidential Advisory Council recommends a majority of competition, including football, move to spring of 2021. An official plan will be determined Monday

Mountain West had 13 games vs. Pac-12. MW’s Craig Thompson: “We were aware of this possibility, will continue to evaluate appropriate decisions & proper timing going forward. The safety, health & wellness of our student-athletes, coaches, staff & campuses remain our top priority”

With 5 schools in California and Arizona, I'd be surprised if the PAC-12 had a fall season. FYI, PAC-12 commissioner Larry Scott has tested positive COVID himself.

Florida State coach Mike Norvell will take 25% pay cut. Norvell & Western Michigan’s Tim Lester (also 25% pay cut), are taking highest percentage pay cuts of FBS coaches. Norvell took cut to help FSU’s athletic department, which is cutting budget by 20%

https://www.cbssports.com/college-b...dwindling-the-ncaa-season-will-start-on-time/:

"Understand, there is currently no reason to think arenas will be filled with fans in November and December. So these buy games are unlikely to be anything but money losers. And if they're money losers, what's the point in playing them -- especially when power-conference schools will have no control over, or even any idea of, the COVID-19 testing protocols implemented by their opponents?

That's the other part of this dilemma.

The advantage of building conference-only schedules that do not start until at least January is that they would give our country more time to get this virus under control and maybe, just maybe, discover a vaccine, and they would also allow a conference -- whether it's the Big Ten or Big 12 or any other league with tremendous resources -- to create testing protocols that are consistently applied to all. In other words if you're a Pac-12 school like UCLA, do you really want to spend the time and money it takes to regularly test and test and test only to then put your team on the court with a school from, say, the Summit League that probably isn't testing as often because they simply do not have the same resources?

'Absolutely not,' a power-conference coach told me. 'Why would we do that?'

So, no, the NJCAA's decision to push the start of basketball to the spring semester will not lead all Division I conferences to immediately do the same, just like the Ivy League and Patriot League already announcing similar plans didn't immediately become a trend that trickled up. But I can't overstate how unlikely it is that the NCAA's upcoming basketball season will start on time and feature full schedules across the board.

It's just not going to happen.

And that's why, at this point, the plan should no longer be rooted in unrealistic hopes that the virus will magically disappear in time for Kentucky to responsibly host Hartford inside a packed Rupp Arena in November. At this point, the goal should be to just have any season in some form that culminates with the 2021 NCAA Tournament. And, with each passing day, as COVID-19 cases continue to trend the wrong direction in too many states, what that's looking more and more like is a season that starts later and features a fraction of the regular-season games currently scheduled to be played."

It makes sense to me...but if this happens, the only equitable thing to do is to reduce the tournament to 32 teams, because there is literally no way you can compare teams across conferences and give out at-large bids to anyone.
