"The Philadelphia Phillies are closing their spring training facility in Clearwater, Florida, after five players and three staff members tested positive for the coronavirus, the team announced. Sources told ESPN's Jeff Passan that the Toronto Blue Jays also shut down their spring training facility in Dunedin on Thursday after a player exhibited coronavirus symptoms.

The Phillies' facility will remain closed until medical authorities are confident that the virus is under control, the team said in a statement Friday."

https://www.espn.com/college-sports/story/_/id/29349067/patriot-league-restricts-travel-short-season:

"The Patriot League announced Monday new guidelines for the return of sports in the fall, including restrictions on air travel.

In its statement, the seven-member FCS league said: Student-athletes would return to campus at the same time as the student body; the conference schedule will begin at the end of September and finish before Thanksgiving; and no Patriot League teams would fly to games, and with rare exceptions, regular-season overnight travel will be prohibited.

Several Patriot League teams have games against FBS competition that would most likely have to be rescheduled or canceled. That includes Colgate at Western Michigan on Sept. 4, Fordham at Hawaii on Sept. 12, and Georgetown at San Diego on Nov. 21.

Fordham told ESPN that the school hasn't yet received clarification on the status of its Hawaii game, but it expects more information soon.

The Patriot League said athletic directors will develop schedules to meet the criteria and announced at a later date."

Suggestion to the NCAA, push the start of the season back to January and only play league games. Buy some more time for a vaccine and to get things under control. Although I can’t wait to be back on the sidelines, the health of my players and staff is what’s really important.

This would pretty much eliminate all non-major at large bids. They would need change the NCAAT selection process too

They would have to shrink the tournament to 32 teams (32 auto-bids only), I think (see my post about this exact thing). There's no way you could select equitable at-large bids with just conference games.

There's 32 conferences right? So one team per conference. I guess that would be the only right way of doing it. Stinks for a lot of good p5 schools but f**k them.

Boise State has cut its baseball and swimming/diving programs, per release. Another effect of coronavirus.
12:26 PM · Jul 2, 2020

https://broncosports.com/news/2020/7/2/general-boise-state-athletics-announces-program-changes.aspx:

"Included in the measures will be the discontinuation of the Broncos' baseball and swimming and diving programs. Additional savings will be found by virtue of department and program operating budget reductions. In all, Boise State anticipates reducing its overall budget by nearly $3 million.

'This is one of the hardest decisions athletic departments have to make, but it comes at a time when we are facing the most serious financial challenge we have ever seen,' Apsey said. 'Times like these are difficult for many people and we appreciate everyone who has supported these programs over the years, including our coaches, current and former student-athletes, donors and fans. We take all these measures seriously, knowing that the long-term stability of our department must remain a high priority.'

'Today's decision came after an extensive review and in-depth analysis of the athletics department's budgets and programs by several senior leaders,' President Dr. Marlene Tromp said. 'The university had already been working closely with athletics to create a sustainable budget. The pandemic has made a challenging financial situation unsustainable. Ultimately, the reduction of the number of sports in which we compete allows Boise State a better chance of remaining competitive at the highest level and provides a more realistic roadmap to a sustainable future for the University and athletic department.'"
